If people consistently have trouble with how Marvel and DC does things, it might not be because theyre all stupid dumb dumbs. Maybe Marvel and DC need to figure out either a better way to market and organize their new offerings, or a different way to tell stories.

It really does require more effort and prior knowledge- not necessarily than manga specifically but from creative teams or solo artists that continue to work together on new similar ideas. I can figure out the multiple reboots and new runs but there are so many more attractive easier options.

if I pick up another series with the same character, it's not going to feel the same if i skip to a new or older series. And again, because the teams are bigger, there may not be a way to follow on to other stories by the same team.

I've never really been able to get into anything that's MARVEL/DC. Not because I don't like superheroes, but because it never feels like an entirely linear experience. I feel like even a #1 is like wading in to fifty years of references and history that I might not even know to look up.
