Where Oasis, the Killers and Noddy Holder raised hell: Britpop’s debauched HQ, the Columbia hotel | Music | The Guardian share.google/Mq4y22jCKUTU...
Me - talking about the Columbia Hotel in this piece. As an aside, The Columbia was mainly frequented by US bands, who liked the UK and it's codeine!
[87] There was a definite pause after George said it. You know, that moment – someone tries a joke and you think… “Ooh there’s a bit of bite to that!” George Martin went quiet for a moment. Then he said: “Really? Well I don’t like your face.” Harrison nodded, and said: “Why? Is it a bit like your mum’s?” Quick as a flash, George Martin says: “No. This tie does remind me of YOUR mum though. Seen better days.” George smiled at this. “The minute I saw it I thought of your mum. Is she still doing the wrestling? “Didn’t your mum work near the docks?” Martin replied. “Nothing to do with the ships obviously.” Harrison was lighting a fag now. “Didn’t you have to hire a cargo ship last time your mum visited?” “We did yes! 30 crewmen. Bet they kept your mum busy.” It just went on and on. The whole session was shelved for that day. But the two Georges went out for dinner. It carried on there for about 3 hrs until the waiter asked them to leave. Ken Townsend, quoted in Rock's Greatest Insults

Those country women are CLEARLY white (or certainly white-passing at the very least).
[86] GEORGE MARTIN: I must say after that first encounter with The Beatles I didn’t think about ties all that much for a good while – things seemed to happen so fast with them. It must have been about 1968 before I had chance to stop, catch my breath as it were, and realise that I’d never once seen George wearing a tie since that day back in June 1962. Then one day in January 1969 I go into the Apple studio on Savile Row and the first thing I see is George, wearing…let me try and describe it: imagine the kind of velvet bow tie you’d see on an eight-year-old at their first violin recital, or a teddy bear in Hamleys. That’s what George was wearing; the most ludicrous, tasteless tie I have ever seen in my life. Where had it come from? Why, after seven years of no ties had he chosen to re-enter the world of the tie with…that? I didn’t say anything but at one point while they were running through For You Blue I made eye contact with George and he grinned at me and winked.

Possibly the GREATEST subtitle error of all time in WWE's Elimination Chamber
Very sad news about David Johansen: I loved the Dolls OGWT appearance - androgynous, chaotic, ludicrous and hard rocking. I interviewed Johansen in 2022 and he sharp and funny. Farewell - you really made a contribution
Thank you, very kind!

You know the desperation to hold on to the simplistic butterflies and roses limerance / lovebombing phase of being targeted by a narcissist & begging the person they pretended to be to come back? This is a song about that. Out with the rest of my album Manic Pixie Bad Dream on the 24th.

"EAT THE TIE! EAT THE TIE!" 👔🍽️
[10] NORMAN SMITH: Harrison looked at George Martin and said ‘Yeah, I don’t like your tie!’ There was a pause, then Martin launched himself at Harrison. He got hold of Harrison’s hair and pulled his head back so he was inches from his face. ‘What did you say?’ he snarled. Harrison wriggled free and punched Martin in the head. It knocked him off balance, enough for Lennon to come in with a kick to the stomach. Martin grabbed Harrison by the throat. By this point McCartney and Best had lashed three mic stands together and came at Martin. He howled and turned to face them, letting go of Harrison. Martin grabbed the weapon and started beating McCartney and Best with it. Then quick as a flash Martin’s kneeling on Harrison’s chest, taking his own tie off, stuffing it into Harrison's mouth. It was then that I realised it was nearly 10pm and if the session ran over management would kick up a fuss. As soon as Martin saw the time he climbed off Harrison’s chest and sent the boys on their way.
