Putin Cannot Erase Ukraine No Russian invasion can undo Ukrainian nationhood.

In Feb 2022, those who took Western intelligence reports seriously wondered who the Ru-installed puppet would be. @oxanashevel.bsky.social and I predicted Ukrainians would fight hard and a puppet couldn't rule, Ru would have to try to achieve full occupation: www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/ukr...

Yanukovych re-install plan was moronic but to know that u had to know 🇺🇦 how it was not how putin wanted it to be. With Ze low popularity before invasion, Ukrainian politicians rushing 2deny they r intended puppet, counted on ppl acquiescing to Yan & ru control. Big mistake

The past hangs over the present, and today's dictator coz-plays dictators of yesterday, selectively remembering, forgetting, & twisting facts to justify his imperialism & authoritarianism as a greater good rather than disaster that it is.

These historians oversee unbiased accounts of U.S. foreign policy. Trump fired them all. An advisory committee of historians helps ensure the record of America’s history remains unbiased, transparent and thorough. Trump just fired the entire panel.

This seems complicated. I added some extension so if I open a post here I see a bookmark icon. But I would love to have it show on the main feed like on X, but alas :(

How realistic is some kind of major breakthru? I keep reading that ru conscription rate barely is keeping up with their loss rate & therefore not enough for breakthru. But Ukr has manpower problems. Do mil analysis have good sense how these 2 problems (un)likely to square on the ground?

When will this platform have easy bookmark functionality for posts? I find myself sticking to the other one because I can easily bookmark posts. Here are many more worthy posts to bookmark but no easy way to do it - not from the main feed at least.

Harvard sues Trump admin for actions that are "unlawful and beyond the government's authority." Great move, Harvard. Link to Harvard complaint submitted to court: links.repoint.harvard.edu/servlet/Mail...

Half the country and nearly 80% of republicans remain in denial of what this regime is quickly moving towards. I wonder if they will be eventually (soon) swayed by the facts or will deny reality because jailing will be for views they themselves don’t hold.

Strange New World Global Putinism, Gangsterism, and the Crisis of the West

What does Russia's post-Soviet experience and the failure of its weak and fledgling democracy in the ‘90s teach us about our current American moment? It's been the elephant in my classroom all semester. In this essay, I address the elephant open.substack.com/pub/brianwhi...

Ukraine is not his to give, and he doesn’t get it, but otherwise yes, he would in a heartbeat.

This is shocking. Read full article. Explosion of these agreements since trump inauguration, turning not just local police but also agencies such as finance departments and fish and wildlife commissions into immigration enforcement agents during them performing their “routine duties.”

I’d add that this admin misunderstands 🇷🇺 too if they think econ incentives are key. putin demands 4handover & formal recognition of 5 territories is but one step towards key 🇷🇺 goal 2 destroy 🇺🇦 state. putin is leading these real estate “experts” by the nose & they r falling for it.

US imposed a 50% tariff on Lesotho,
whose average citizen earns less than $5 a
day.

Why?

Because the formula for supposedly
"reciprocal" tariff rates has nothing to do
with tariffs. The Trump team have
calculated each penalty by dividing the
U.S. trade deficit with a given country by
how much the U.S. imports from it and
then doing a rough adjustment. Because
Lesothơ's ppl are too poor to afford most
U.S. exports, while the U.S. imports $237
million in diamonds and other goods from
the nation, they have reserved the highest-
possible tariff rate for one of the world's
poorest places. The idea that taxing
Lesotho gemstones is necessary for the
U.S. to add steel jobs in Ohio is absurd

Trump’s whopping great tariffs on the tiny African nation of Lesotho sum up the full madness of the scheme.

Morning Bluesky.

Russia is pushing the idea that the extraordinarily successful Hands Off protests yesterday were organised by the ‘Deep State’ to bring about a ‘Colour Revolution’ in America like the one that overthrew the Putin puppet in Ukraine in 2004.

Expect Trump to echo.

The doc dismisses any potential political concessions by 🇺🇦 such as rejection of NATO & holding of elections in which pro-🇷🇺 parties allowed 2participate as not being far-reaching enough. "In reality, current Kyiv regime cannot be changed from inside the country. Its complete dismantling is needed."🔗⬇️

Leaked doc analyzed by WP on 🇷🇺goals in negotiations. Even 🇷🇺 FSB acknowledges that no pro-🇷🇺 regime can emerge in 🇺🇦 "from inside the country" & thus "complete dismantling" of 🇺🇦 state & govt is needed. No NATO is insufficient. What @popovaprof.bsky.social & I have been saying all along⬇️

Putin keeps talking about removing the "root causes of the war". The root cause of the war is russian imperialism. Removing it will be a hard/ long process that has to start w end of Pu's regime, followed by democratization, and a conscious policy of deimperialization. @oxanashevel.bsky.social and I
