They say there's gonna be a €9.2billion surplus rather than predicted €5.1billion.
I have thoughts.
No. 1 they constantly lie.
No. 2 most of this "surplus" is dependent on Ai, data centres and corporation tax.
No. 3 they'll allocate lots of this to rainy day funds...the rainy day fund includes...

First shared by @greens-efa.eu almost four years ago, this message feels just as urgent today amid a deepening energy crisis.
We can’t keep ignoring the root cause: our dependence on fossil fuels - driving conflict, damaging our environment, and pushing costs ever higher for ordinary people.
Dr Victoria Mullin (Zoology, TCD) and Professor Daniel Bradley (Genetics, TCD) are advertising a funded PhD studentship in ancient genomics based at Trinity College Dublin.
Someone in the Arabidopsis/clock community seems to deeply dislike my work on research culture. Just want to say: whoever you are, please write & debate me directly instead of cowering behind anonymous grant reviews that threaten my students’ work. (2nd year in a row)

We present DNAharvester 🎉🦴🚜🧬

Can you believe that until now there were more genomes sequenced for the woolly mammoth than for living African elephants?
Today, we bring you the first genomic, continent-scale analyses of 232 high-quality genomes of both species, the savanna and forest elephant.

My lab read this paper www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... for journal club, and had some thoughts on the strong claims made about the number of signals of selection found.
Proud to share that I’ve been awarded the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen Prize for Interdisciplinarity for my PhD research 🎉
A wonderful recognition! I’m excited for what’s next.

I have the peer review files open to see if the skepticism of the folk was matched by the reviewers.
In Germany, you would be piling on the adjectives. Thanks!
Pleased to say I've been promoted to Associate Professor! Only would be possible with the help of mentors, colleagues, my team and friends along the way.

Wildlife trade drives animal-to-human pathogen transmission over 40 years
New in @science.org ‼️ In the most comprehensive study to date, we show that wildlife trade is driving animal-to-human zoonotic spillover at a planetary scale, with +1 spillover per host every 10 years. Live animal markets and illegal trade pose even greater risks. 🔓 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

"who cares about Palestine etc, we need to care of the irish" first off where the fuck do you think this fucking fuel comes from. a fundamental problem of the human condition is people do not see the interdependence of life. esp, life in the 21st century. "no farms, no food" no atmosphere no farms.
So to recap, the fuel protestors wasted their own fuel driving fuel guzzling rigs, buses and tractors to shut down emergency services, public transport and fuel depot's creating a shortage of fuel and endangering people's lives when Ireland doesn't technically have a fuel shortage.

I think I did mention how much they change ecosystems, with regards to the introduction of domestic goats to Europe in the Neolithic period being thought to have contributed to changing vegetation. Maybe it was edited out!
This deserves #goats and #speirgorm tags
Photo of trans flag with text on flag which reads, “There are trans people here.”
Today is Transgender Day of Visibility. Solidarity today and everyday with trans and non-binary folk who claim space unapologetically. As governments turn trans visibility into a matter of “ideology,” we must refuse to see trans lives as a debate and instead nurture trans joy, safety, and belonging.
I think often of a New York Times photo of a little Iraqi girl tending to her parakeets in a bombed house, probably from 20 years ago now. I will think of this man and his sweet dog often now too. People just want to love what they love, care for their little beings, and instead we do this to them
