There is only one working class, the Professional Managerial Class. There is only one working class party, the Democratic Party. There is only one working class newspaper, The Financial Times. There is only one working class heartland, Northern Virginia

Our revolution endorsing Tom Steyer is good, of the candidates with a shot I think he’s probably the best one, it reflects well on them and shows policy seriousness. All that said: it’s still pretty funny.

Remember, Democrats have repeatedly advanced measures to ban partisan gerrymandering and Republicans have voted against them time after time.

This is the game Republicans wanted to play. OK, then.

Germany began automatically granting birthright citizenship to eligible immigrant children born after 1/1/00. Study finds that "immigrant youth who acquired citizenship at birth are substantially less likely to engage in criminal activity, with estimates indicating a 70% reduction in crime."

Starting a mid-decade redistricting war only to end up with -1 seats is the same fine strategic genius and subtle grasp of game theory that brough us the Strait of Hormuz.

The implicit media consensus is that urban voters should not be able to overrule rural voters, but that rural voters should be able to overrule urban voters, an assumption so axiomatic and unquestionable that nobody even understands they're making it.

“enhanced interrogation” instead of torture walked so “detention centers” instead of concentration camps could run.

Pop Stars, the Korean Government, and the Forgotten Stakeholders of Tradition In this chapter, I examine the benefits and potential pitfalls of using visual and aural tradition to brand popular music products as Korean. Once Korean traditions and Korean popular culture were fie...

I wrote a thing (a book chapter in an edited book) about how despite all the great attention to Korean traditions that are brought by some activities in the pop sphere, the actual traditional performers are being side-lined/not benefiting. link.springer.com/chapter/10.1....

AOC talking to RFK Jr. Her facial and hand gesture has the spiritual energy of that Italian hand gesture where you pinch your fingers and wave your hand (the "ma che vuo" gesture).

The GOP entered this redistricting under the rather childish delusion they were going to gerrymander, and nobody would gerrymander them. In TX, MO, and a half dozen other states, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind

it really speaks to the double standard pervasive throughout all of politics that even when Democrats play dirty they put it up to a public referendum and still get harsher media coverage

A lot of you people who used to complain about the imperial boomerang coming back to America are weirdly silent when a CIA officer engineers an election in the way you like.

Curious.

I would submit that a gerrymander by politicians saying fuck the voters and one by voters saying fuck the politicians are two wholly different animals

Aside from who started it, states like CA and VA putting a counter-gerrymander up to a referendum, where people are told and can make a decision on the context for why it's being done, has vastly more democratic legitimacy than state legislators rushing it through because they got bullied by POTUS.

I've met him twice now, he's quite nice as a person, but whenever I hear him speak about housing, all I hear is "we need to make it easier for first time homebuyers to buy their first home" and this meme pops in my head for no reason whatsoever:

Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.

EU’s top court finds Hungary’s anti-LGBTQ+ law in breach of key values ECJ says law passed in 2021 is discriminatory and ‘contrary to the identity of the union’, in early test for new PM

“The EU’s highest court has found Hungary’s anti-LGBTQ+ law to be discriminatory, stigmatising and in breach of basic democratic values…”

This is a crucial decision. The court rejected the political claim that LGBTQ+ representation is “propaganda.” We must keep fighting politics that dehumanise us.
