Falling school rolls must be the major issue of the next 5-10 years which has least media attention.

This is I think one thing the “who cares?” people are missing.

That at every stage, the Mandelson affair shows a guy who is simply not interested in what his job *actually involves* or how organisations work.

Cannot run an effective government without a prime minister.

true story: some Brit wealth managers, clients of whom are rich Brits, told me they keep getting calls saying 'help! i just read in [a newspaper that's not the FT] that we're about to default on our gilts and go to the IMF! what should I do?'
and they say 'er, read another newspaper?'

this is actually perfectly structured because you get to take three and you think "ah yes, hmmm, I wouldn't have said that personally" then take four hits you out of nowhere like a cartoon mallet

The Two Body Problem Keir Starmer does not understand what being Prime Minister means. Also: ray cats, atomic priests and nuclear semiotics; and the difficulties of defining a city.

"I can believe Starmer did not lie to the Commons. But the nature of his defence suggests he’s been more than negligent in doing his job: it amounts to an admission he did not understand it."

We’re in the truly weird position where McSweeney had to go for giving the PM the advice to appoint Mandelson and Robbins had to go for not stopping him.

8% of adults in England and Wales faced domestic violence last year. A quarter of those were stalked by the perpetrator.

And the council still insists on publishing names and addresses together on the internet, except for its councillors, due to, you know, the risks

Planning applications: there may be leopards “It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.’ ” So Douglas Adams, writing in 1979, judged the opacity...

🚨Clarion short read🚨
Ever commented on a planning application? Full marks for being an engaged citizen. But did you realise your name and address would be visible to the world? We look at a privacy leak in local democracy… and ask why it’s one rule for the public, another for councillors.

Whether Starmer goes is more a matter of politics than about the constitution, but the Prime Minister should properly account to Parliament for his own decision to appoint Mandelson.

His current approach of ducking, and blaming and sacking others, is a failure of prime ministerial responsibility.

Trump avoided punishments for his post-2020 abuses, but many of his lawyers did not For the attorneys who helped fuel the president’s efforts to remain in office, the consequences have been severe. Take John Eastman, for example.

And they remain mystified as to why it's so hard for them to find real lawyers who will work for him...

Eastman: disbarred

Giuliani: disbarred

Chesebro: disbarred

Clark: facing possible disbarment

Ellis: law license suspended
