Science is good. We should fund it.

Are you interested in psychological experiments, but feel a little unsure about programming. Try OpenSesame. Not only has it a user-friendly GUI, it is also connected to SigmundAI, an AI assistant that can basically make the experiment for you! Super cool stuff by @cogsci.nl
SigmundAI.eu can now implement complete psychological experiments in #OpenSesame. From scratch based on verbal description. Astonishing how far #AI has come 😵💫 #psychology
🚨New Publication!🚨 When doing research with transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), it is important to consider one major potential confound: retinal phosphenes. They may affect your data significantly, which is what we discuss here!

Welcome!
Open assistant professor position in noninvasive brain stimulation in cognition at Maastricht University: www.academictransfer.com/en/jobs/3557...
Note that due to the damage we had higher TMS intensities for patients. This could relate to the larger N15.

That is the big question! In healthy volunteers Zrenner et al showed that rTMS at trough was most effective for offline results. But in patients, we don't know. That will be answered in follow up research!
That is a good point. The P30-N15 was our main outcome, as it is a difference score. The absolute N15 and P30 are affected by the phase at point 0ms, meaning that the abs values contains more inherent variability. And with that additional variability our statistical power was likely not strong 'nuff
🚨New Publication!🚨Using phase-targeted TMS-EEG we tested the cortical excitability of stroke survivors at various oscillation phases (mu rhythm). Published in Clinical Neurophysiology: doi.org/10.1016/j.cl...

This was the weekend of science in Groningen (aka #ZpannendZernike). It was my privilege to talk to kids, moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, and more about the #brain, #neuroscience and #brainstimulation.
Kom naar de wetenschapsopendag in Groningen en leer meer over de hersenen en neurowetenschap. 4 Okt, 12-17u, Academiegebouw
Come to the science open day in Groningen and learn about brains and neuroscience. 4 Oct, 12-17h, Academy building #ZpannendZernike

I agree with Danai, and will add that in the Netherlands for a PhD a 2-year master (so called "research master") is preferred. Not a requirement, you can do a PhD with a 1 year master, but it can be more difficult to be accepted.
Thanks!
Thanks Surya! 😁
🚨WHOHOO!! I am happy to share that I received the #ERCStG for my project PRECHRON: The Prefrontal Chronometer for Organizing Working Memory.
I am going to study #neuraloscillations during #workingmemory at the @rug.nl @rug-gmw.bsky.social

🚨 New preprint: Invisible neural frequency tagging (RIFT) for the underfunded researcher:
RIFT uses high-frequency flicker to probe attention in M/EEG with minimal stimulus visibility and little distraction. Until now, it required a costly high-speed projector.
Had a great time with Gonzalo Rivera and @crimoral.bsky.social and many others at the SimNIBS workshop. A lot of discussion on #TMS, #tDCS, and #tACS!
🚨New Publication!🚨 Sybren van Hoornweder and I wrote a piece on personalization of transcranial electrical stimulation, focusing on sources of variability and how to optimize parameters to reduce this variability. Out now in TINS!

This would have been my answer as well. Other reviews are mostly focused on particular conditions or populations.
Congratulations!! 🎉
🚨New paper alert🚨We found the theta oscillation at left temporo-parietal junction maybe a key factor of refractory positive symptoms.

🚨New Publication🚨 From the Opitz Lab (w/ @alekseichuk.bsky.social). A new closed-loop TMS-EEG algorithm that targets specific neural oscillation phases and is flexible across different brain regions and frequency bands.

Summer time!
In a sense showering different sources with phase delays is what a traveling wave is.
🚨 New paper: Motor cortex excitability is shaped by traveling alpha & beta waves 🧠🌊
Using EEG-triggered TMS & ECoG in humans + a non-human primate, we show excitability depends on phase and direction of neural rhythms.
