Very excited to present our new project #BYGENEX, an @ERC_Research Advanced Grant! During the next five years we will be studying the genetic mechanisms that govern the phagocytosis of bacteria by protists @icmcsic.bsky.social
New article on #protist global distributions combining the #Mixoplankton and #metaPR2 databases with revised functional annotations led by @lusantof.bsky.social, Michaela E. Larsson, and Suzana Leles with Aditee Mitra and Emile Faure. Now available on Ocean Microbiology

Docker containers are now available for the three PR2 applications:
- pr2-database: reférence database
- pr2-primers: primer database and analysis
- metapr2: metabarcode database and visualization.
This by far the easiest way to use these databases on your computer.

For those of you who are using metaPR2 extensively, a good alternative to installing the R package which can cause trouble because of dependencies, you can try the newly available docker container:

Just on time for the holidays! Happy to share the published version of the discovery of leptophytes, a new deep-branching and widespread group of microalgae based on plastid MAGs (ptMAGs). Now with additional support from a mitochondrial MAG (mtMAG) of leptophytes.

Superb pictures...
Fantastic work done with a very large number of RCC strains.
Another piece of fascinating work done with RCC strains.
Superbe....
We have added more than 900 new GenBank sequences to the RCC database that are linked to the web page of the corresponding strains.
New version of PR2 that now includes the eKOI coi database recently published.
PR2 primers version 2.1.0 has been released. This does not include any new primer, but now the database uses the latest version of PR2 (5.1.1) to perform in silico analyses.

metaPR2 version 3.0 has just been released.
Here are the major changes:
- Metabarcodes (ASVs) are now annotated with the latest version of the PR2 reference sequence database (5.1.0).
- 8 new published datasets have been added from the Arctic and from the South West Pacific.

I would never believe this would happen in a Canadian university☹️
Such statements undermine funding efforts for large scale oceanographic projects. I am sure Trump would lovet it...
The following statement is utterly misleading "The cost of this venture pales in comparison to running a scientific research vessel, while yielding far more information..." A bunch of random measurements will never replace a carefully planned cruise with a very large number of metadata.
It was so nice and so fulfilling to interact with you both...
Very nice led by Clarence and Adriana...
ASM is so US centered... mostly American authors, a few European and no one else from South America, Africa or Asia... a real shame.
We have contributed to a paper led by Kenneth Timmis on the murky world of predatory journals:

We have an A in house with a brillant master thesis defence of Sandra Irén!!! First master student of the GEEK lab in Norway! 😍 Thanks to @maritbjorbaekmo.bsky.social and Inger Skrede for a delightful & constructive discussion. #protists #proudadvisor 🔬🧬👩💻 @biovitenskap.bsky.social
