When I am literally here on this earth because these different people came together and built unique traditions and ways of life that didn’t resemble their pasts, I see so much more than the black and white history that modern historians write.
What we celebrate represents what we strive to be. Everyone falls short. However, we can’t lose our values by losing our faith in goodness.
There were struggles before and after, but the fact that it is a remembrance that is celebrated each year reflects our values of how treasured the union still is today.
What was truly good about the Thanksgiving story was that in the face of betrayal and murders of new people meeting each other, eternal bonds were formed between very different people.

Here’s where my history is interesting. My maternal grandfather was Choctaw and a direct Mayflower descendent (Ed Doty, indentured servant). His grandfather’s name was Bird in Choctaw and was translated to English. My maternal grandmother was Cherokee and Irish.
I’m relieved that we’re all ready to agree that true democracy doesn’t exist here. I’ve spent my entire life in Oklahoma, Texas, and the Caribbean, with a couple years in St. Louis. I have yet to experience lack of corrupt leaders. They’re unapologetically blatant about it.
Cheating is NOT okay. People WILL intervene. It has been a time when we all got to see each other’s true colors. It will be okay. It won’t always be like this.

Cherokee Nation wants to keep Medicaid, and the Oklahoma state government is silencing them and pushing to further dissolve the tribal nation. If Medicaid is socialism, then yes! I want it! I’ve watched a lot of family members be sent home from the hospital to die.

Did my civic duty and showed up for jury duty today. Sat in the courtroom for an hour and the case was dismissed because they resolved it right before the case began. Its the closest I’ve come to being a juror.
I was fighting leg cramps, general fatigue from chronic lack of sleep combined with high humidity, and a pukey feeling from sinus drainage due to pollen, but I got my run in. Maintaining the habit. As soon as I pull into my neighborhood and the temp is 85F, I’m switching to swimming!

My first run since Houston was attacked with oak pollen by Mother Nature. I suck at pacing myself, especially when out of my routine. Felt kinda good to not think about it and move as fast or as slow as I felt like. Maybe tomorrow I’ll worry about discipline.

i would hate to be enlisted now. I was heavily recruited by US Army, Navy, and Airforce (especially because I had flight training as a teen). I would never accept, no matter how enticing the offer, because I disagreed with the ethics of so many actions of American military.
Now I understand why our money goes so much further in the US. We have cheap oil, which makes everything cheap.
Experts are strongly resented.They’re not celebrated.
Maybe all these memes, AI tools, and social media replacing time spent with books are more to blame than reducing socialization time. Just a thought.
