Is there any way to get the version that was released for humble bundle back in the day? I used to have it, but I lost the drive I had it on :(
got my first million+ score on Evil Egg!
Really been enjoying this demo
Oi! There's a new beta of Utopia Must Fall available now. If you've bought the game on Steam* you can check it out by opting into the beta. Works on Steamdeck now too!
* = It's on sale right now and costs less than a pint of beer, and I'm skint because everything else is expensive, please buy it.
Actually, Sept. 26!
Releasing Eidolon tomorrow!
A triangular range chart labeled "Indie Game Vibe Check", where the three axes are "Enpoisoned", "Pumpy's Big Clumpy", and "Misty Cube". Each intersection features a game - Lunacid is the most Enpoisoned, Untitled Goose Game is the most Pumpy's Big Clumpy, and Manifold Garden is the most Misty Cube. Undertale is directly in the center, surrounded by Tunic (Pumpy), Void Stranger (Misty), and Star of Providence (Poison)
I strongly believe in the breadth and influence of independent art, to grant us oblique angles on the world and ourselves.
But also every indie game is somewhere on this spectrum:
doctor gave me amoxicillin. I'm just like the pig from radiohead
HOLY SHIT!!!!!
"Spellhack!!" is pretty compact, and it also feels faster because of the real-time element. I also like Dimwood (only demo version out so far).
Your passion and creativity has been an inspiration to me. Thank you for making the tough decision for this project so that we all get to play whatever awesome games you'll make next!
I really adore cosmogoyf so far. Might not end up being top of the metagame, but it's so fun
So says I, Bartleby Shoals!
Bruhhh I wish I was free tn
That's fair enough. I've also thought about this a lot, having played many different versions of this kind of game. CloverPit is a very polished and well done example of the genre.
I think you should try the demo, and I would be curious to hear how that experience affects your perspective on this.
I disagree with the idea that "skinner box" mechanics are cheap / not interesting. Simplicity on the surface allows depth to reveal itself elegantly.
I don't deny that it's a gambling themed game, but the reward schedule is not the same as gambling.
Besides, even if it were literally just a slot machine that gives you fake money, wouldn't that be better than an actual slot machine?
I think games like this are more about strategy/deck building than gambling. There needs to be some element of uncertainty involved, but the mechanics revolve around interesting ways to reduce the uncertainty. The "downtime" between slot pulls is the more important part of the game
Alex scrolls on her phone of a graphic that says "Get off your phone." She says "mental health tik-tok is really sorting me out." She stares at another graphic that says "get off your phone" as the sun begins to set. At twilight, with visible stubble she views another one that says "get off your phone." Nightfall, another helpful tik-tok reminding her to get off her phone."
Happy birthday!
I played a ton of the original disc room back when it was in the humble vault. I like the new one, but I wish I could still play the old one too!

Game design is so much about coralling uncertainty. Constructing a little pen where uncertainty can prowl around and delight onlookers but never actually escape the confines.
This will be Cecil graphics in 2011
