"After his visit... Horner said, 'Jeffrey and the girls were very gracious hosts… Please give my best to Jeffrey and the girls.'

Horner later said the four women he mentioned...were... college students"

Among other things, let's stop calling college women "girls."🤬

USAID= .5% of fed budget. Americans spend more on bubblegum than on aid. ROI in terms of power projection, soft power & institution shaping— never mind lives saved/societies rebuilt— makes it one of smartest things US does. Its why China, despite flat growth, will now increase aid budget. Just watch

I've always strongly disliked the distinction. Too often I've seen it used to defend bad pedagogical practices because of age/developmental differences. Bad pedagogy is bad pedagogy. Period. We should always be teaching for the actual humans in the room.

Yes! Our job isn't to perpetuate the abuse of the "real world" in order to prepare our students to live in it. Our job is to prepare them to fight against the abuse!

Yes! This isn’t a hard line as much as a framework to guide my work. Our students already live in the ‘real world,’ they’re citizens of, participants in, and victims of it.

Also, when folks talk about the real world they’re too often referring to adherence to an oppressive capitalist machine.

I take your point, but I also worry that given the current climate in OK public schools clarity isn’t going to be forthcoming.
