they hate when we run something out of their playbook without giving them a head start

it’s funny how much some of these folks hate those of us in NOVA but happily enjoy the benefits of our contributions to the Commonwealth’s coffers and reputation

as chaotic as things have been upstream recently, it’s great to know City Beach is exactly the same as it’s been my entire life.

just got off FaceTime with my aunt and grandmother in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, where it’s snowing and the current wind chill is 10°. they’ve both lived there most of their lives and STILL said “this is wrong, it shouldn’t be doing this”

looks like a beautiful morning to enjoy the good ocean smell!

I’ve never known a cat that reminds me it’s time to give them their medication…until Steele.

and that medication is prednisolone, in pill form — notoriously bitter. he is SUCH a good boy.

can confirm. it was only the week after Mother’s Day, and it’s been 30 years, but I can still remember the way my dad cursed when the smell hit him.

mysteriously, all of the Easter eggs at the next year’s egg hunt were plastic, not hard-boiled.

considering building a swamp cooler and sticking one of my dehumidifiers right next to it to deal with the additional humidity because fuuuuuuuuck it’s hot in my apartment

the state just announced they got the hydroelectric generating equipment at the dam working (it probably hasn’t worked since I was a kid, honestly) and the water level is starting to drop.

quite a few roads all across the region are flooded and impassable but hopefully those can be restored soon.

we’re now 6 years into legal proceedings routinely taking place over video calls, and this attorney is not only leaving their mic on in a loud office environment, but getting bent out of shape about me muting them after asking them to be mindful of the background noise 🙃

huh. I didn’t see a station manager at my exit station so swiped my card to see what would happen. it ended up charging me $2.25 (less than my usual fare, $2.80) and let me out. #wmata

lights just came on down at the platform so maybe it’s resolved, just hoping I don’t have any trouble getting out where I’m going because I couldn’t tap in

FYI for fellow @metrorailinfo.bsky.social commuters: no power at Crystal City. no working escalators into the station, fare gates all open because the card readers are off. escalators do work from mezzanine to platforms. #wmata

Sharon butt-dialed me three times this week but thankfully never left me a voicemail

LOL someone at my former company texted me to try to contract me for a job in another part of Virginia next week. granted, it’s a total mess over there and she started after my departure, but really?!

I’d have to be desperate to do anything for them at this point, and I’m not.

right! I didn’t wear foundation regularly for years because my skin breaks out easily, and it’s hard to find anything that doesn’t aggravate it. could not believe how expensive it’s gotten when I had to buy a new bottle before interviews a few months ago.

wow, I hadn’t seen this. spent my earliest years growing up in a house downhill from the high school, and about halfway from the high school to the dam they’re keeping an eye on. we usually had standing water in the backyard for a few days in the spring, and that was with way less snow. 🙁

hoping your area didn’t see too much action overnight. it’s been a rough few years for extreme weather up there…I was born in Cheboygan and finished growing up near Gaylord, family is still up there, and folks just cannot catch a break.

huh. this was something I had never considered, but it makes a ton of sense. when things are going poorly, people probably aren’t going for fun and whimsy. I definitely started buying more boring tights/pantyhose when I lost a job I’d had for 6+ years and had to go back out on the job market.

aaaaaand unrelated to the dam, they just issued evacuation orders for much of the area downstream on the west side of the river 🙃

I was born in a hospital that practically overlooks this dam, then went home to a house two blocks away where my grandfather still lives.

definitely don’t feel good about what a failure could do downstream, especially to a downtown area where a lot of the buildings predate the dam itself.

Coal’s first audible ekekekek I’ve gotten on camera. unlike his meows and mrrrs, he’s pretty quiet when talking to the birds.

this time last year, both boys were still figuring out how to be house cats…I think spring and summer will be much more fun for all of us this year.

these two are surprisingly loooooooong when they want to be. they can stretch out to block any doorway in the house with their feet braced on both sides. but they save the really big stretches for birds, dogs, loud neighbors, etc.

Coal, a black cat, and Steele, a gray tuxedo cat, crouch on a black shelf next to a window with blue curtains. they are watching something out the window very intently, probably a pair of sparrows we believe are nesting on the neighbor’s balcony.
