"Unfortunately, the types of people for whom such fellowships might represent the greatest departure from their everyday experience—and whose career trajectories might be most dramatically shifted given freedom from their usual constraints—are infrequently their beneficiaries."

a blonde dude with lots of tattoos and jeffrey dahmer glasses looks moodily at the camera with a Very Cool t-shirt with a goth girl on it, surrounded by flowers. Underneath it says Plant Native Plants
A person with glasses in a lovely backyard and long brown hair wears a black t-shirt that says biology is bigger than binaries with a honeybee, lily, and clownfish on it
We have 2 cool shirts! I have to sell them out by early April for 2 reasons:
1) 5 of my family members are staying in the Skype a Scientist stockroom in mid-April 😅
2) I need to fund our mural project which starts the first week of April!
They're soft! They're cute! Get a shirt!

I really wanted to know more about Renee Good, killed by ICE in January. Fortunately, my editor allowed me to take some time to do a deep dive into who she was before she died. Read and listen to what I found out about her from her Colorado tribe here: www.cpr.org/2026/03/11/r...
Union busting is everywhere and it’s only getting worse.
I know this is impossible for us discuss in this current moment but... People want to do interesting, thoughtful, creative, day to day work. They want to care for each other, and feel like they are contributing to something bigger.
It should be where we start when we think about our communities.
Think bigger than theory and reading and arguing on the internet, think embodiment and art and different ways of living and moving through the world. Think sharpness and tenderness, interdependence and community.
Liberation for some is justice for none.
Photo of a ceramic tea pot in the shape of a man who is a ginger dandy looking cunty as hell in a chartreuse jacket and magenta beret. He’s mustachioed and over it. This is in the Chicago Art institute.
You better not be a snide little teapot when I get home:
The federal government has a massive database with sensitive info for every kid involved in a state child support case -- and the current addresses of many single moms who survived domestic abuse.
So of course, Trump's DHS wants full access to it.

Watchmen issue #1
Discussion of Watchmen is dominated by the thoughts and feelings of male writers, so @shelfdust.bsky.social paid 12 female and non-binary writers to talk about each issue of the serial instead: shelfdust.com/tag/we-watch...
An acrylic painting of a skeleton framed head and shoulders leering at a Chicago-style hot dog it is holding in its hend. The hot dog has a little face that is just two eye holes and a mouth hole, and some spooky, ghosty green ectoplasmic things are floating up out of the little face holes. No I don't know why either.
I have once again been way off w/r/t actual painting so I wanted to mess with something small and low stress and dumb with no attachment to how it was going to turn out and I think it's safe to say I accomplished that

"I think the LLM is conscious" makes a lot more sense when you realize a lot of people don't grasp the interiority of other people.
If you view other people as a series of inputs and utilities, it makes a lot of sense that you would see inert code awaiting your prompt as conscious.
Promo photo for 1979’s “Alien” featuring Sigourney Weaver, Yaphet Kotto & Harry Dean Stanton.
Interesting to see, but, oddly, it doesn’t transmit the slightest sense of how utterly terrifying the movie is.
Drawing of hands on the ground connected with locks of dark hair. Surrounding are the cherry blossom petals and flowers.

A red entity crawls along the ground in mid-transformation underneath a star. Their three wings appear to be melting, and their body is a confusing jumble that appears to currently have two heads, a human form, and a tail. A frame in the upper left reads 'transform' in Wormrōte.
The magician Āyen bows before the goddess Eris among a frame-filling series of calligraphic marks. The goddess Mūn watches from above, and the whole scene is rendered in black and white.

DC Comic' character Janet is wearing a dress with flowers adorning it. 3 white doves fly around her and one is handing Janet an ivy sprig in her outstretched hand. There are dead bodies and rotting skeletons around Janet in a swamp setting.

'An awful tragedy is unfolding...'
A digitally drawn homage to the George Herriman comic strip Krazy Kat. Starting left of frame we see yellow Ignatz Mouse having just thrown a brick which is sailing across the center of the frame and in another instant will bash the oblivious Krazy Kat (a blue bipedal cartoon cat wearing a red scarf) in the back of the head as he walks innocently to the right. Everything is drawn in rough black pen and colored in pale washes. A speech bubble from Ignatz reads ‘Maybe it will…’, the word ’Happen’ appears in the whooshing trail of the sailing brick, and a final speech bubble belonging to the Kat reads ‘…Today’.
Had a go at some pixel art 🙂↕️
