a black and white photo of a woman wearing a turtleneck sweater and a dress . Alt: Lucille Ball shrugging, throwing her hands in the air, and making a "Welp, ok then!" facial expression.

This. I'm *terrified* of wolf spiders specifically even though I know they're harmless. But after moving to the edge of a swamp I realized that I'd need to learn to live with em because they're peak pest control, and we swore to never use pesticides. We even let a rat snake hang out in the garage!

Anxiety disorder and medical trauma be like "I'm achy, nauseous, and more exhausted than usual, I'm sick and dying"

Common sense replies: "You just got two vaccines and it was insulin regulation shot day, also it's past midnight. You're fine"

Got two vaccine shots from a Somalian immigrant yesterday. She's the pharmacy manager and actually reminds *me* when I need a booster.

Having worked for USAID-funded NGOs I've seen first-hand how far people in developing nations will go, on foot, to get their kids vaccinated.

For someone who likes to call us a semi-literate, you sure don't seem to know how to answer a direct question.

None of us has ever thought those things were "funny." The CIA has been synonymous with corruption & conspiracy among Americans since it started. A tool for the govt to do its dirty work, against our own citizens as well. Do you think the average American sits around cackling in glee about the CIA?

Really was just an issue with not having enough time. The anime actually improved on a lot of things from the manga, but they had to cut a lot of stuff to fit it into the time they were given. They did a great job, just got kneecapped by Netflix.

There are mobile vets who do frequent free spays and neuters - the library or animal shelters in your county should be able to help you find one for that.

I pretty much only look good in black and grey, dark red if I'm feeling spiteful toward color theory

YUP the one where suddenly you're not allowed to wear graphic tees or do winged glam makeup. I refuse to accept the memo

A prop I made inspired by a potion of starlight from the book "The Forbidden Door" by Marilee Heyer.

It's in a round bottle with a round stopper, sealed with black wax, and the neck is wrapped with twine to distract from the air gap needed to make the effect work. When you agitate the bottle, a shimmering and glittering liquid twists and swirls in bands against the glass with an effect similar to the storms of Jupiter.

It can be done with any colors and people use a lot of suspension liquids and glitters, but I like how this combo looks best. It is simply isopropyl alcohol, a drop of food coloring to contrast with or intensify the glitter (I used black, gel works but sucks to mix), a very small amount of super-fine mica powder (I used metallic grey and black), and an even tinier quantity of fine holo-white mica flakes for the "stars").

Folks were also surprisingly excited about the Strange Fey Owl Shinies I put together as party favors - small versions of this prop (check alt text).

I had an extra, and blew a very drunk patron's mind when I "conjured it from nowhere" (ie took it out of my pocket, he was DRUNK) and gave it to him.

Tom got together a few folks I'd mainly only talked to on a quiet little movie server, and we met up for karaoke at a barcade near where I had my photoshoot. I stayed in full costume, lol. Was nice to meet them in person. @spacebearsmo.bsky.social made me a pretty bracelet in my clown colors.

Anywho ... was my birthday on Wednesday. One of the big'uns. So yay, happy birthday, @tapestrybeast.bsky.social! Someone's gotta post it or a giant cat will come eat you. Or maybe the cat is something else. Bird people who stuff you full of trash? Nah, that's not it.

It would be one thing if a couple of shots were intentionally like that. I did mention that I have aphantasia and it would be cool to have some shots where things were only partially visible. But this is a consistent issue, as there are shots with my entire body where you can't see the stripes

For comparison, here's a crop of a quarter of one of his shots (he specifically asked not to post w/o credit and I don't want to put him on blast before this is resolved), vs a selfie I took later in a room that was lit blue; the stripes and makeup are still clearly red without any adjustments.

I know that costume photography is his side gig and he's in it for the creativity, and given his portfolio I get the impression that maybe he simply wasn't as interested in my shoot as he is in others. And that's fine and everything, but I want to be able to at least see my damn costume, you know

6 days ago 0 0 1 0

I'm usually down with an artist's vision, but I just plain cannot make out my costume or makeup on a good percentage of a 90 minute shoot that I spent a lot of time preparing for and had to drive a good distance for.

Plus, you know, expensive.

I just don't want to be an asshole about it.

Friends who cosplay or have other hobbies that involve photoshoots:

How should I politely ask the photog to increase the contrast on an entire order of photos?

My costume's red stripes look blue on some monitors and aren't visible at all on mobile screens. Same with makeup - just black smudges.

Well, have fun continuing the proud Twitter tradition of pointing and calling names for no real reason, I guess? Someone gently saying "Hey maybe that was kinda sucky and could be reined in a bit" is usually good feedback. But ok.

Hope you have a good evening.

Yeah but then look at the response - people calling them a coward and the like. We gotta remember that people have powerful ids. We can all stand to chill a little if it means what we say won't turn people on someone else.
