I am now working out a plan to do a LIDAR scan of this submarine outside of the Submarine Force Museum in Connecticut. It will include modifying a fishing reel with a motor to drag the unit along automatically.

This is the Hesai Pandar QT64. This has 64 lasers and out of the box was doing 600rpm according to the web interface. I think that can be changed, but I have not tried to play with it.

It is alive! Hesai PandarQT 64 LIDAR viewed through @kitware.bsky.social 's LidarView. I need to start playing with this more to see how I can do some mapping of large structures and what things influence the overall precision/accuracy of the measurement.

Anyone have experience with Velodyne Lidar unit repair? I have a VLP32C that I got of ebay. It spins up, my webcam can see the lasers shining on the walls, but it does not communicate over ethernet and there are no activity lights on the ethernet port.

That is the exact reason I am going with a switching regulator from a vendor with a good reputation. Pololu makes some good products that fit this niche.

Laziness and size. I did not want to spin my own on this as this is just a quick one off, but I did not want this project to be too big. Having a pre-made unit that I can plop in speeds it up while not making things too large. If I am getting pre-made, then I want it to just be done, no externals.

More particularly interesting is the efficiency curves. It has a pretty high efficiency over its entire output current range.

I may just go with this. It is the right size, I can make it semi surface mountable, good price, and good documentation.

This looks like it could be a good candidate

I am sure that there is a reason that they still want extra components, likely having to do with making sure that it meets EMC requirements in a custom solution. That is just a guess.

Basically, I am looking for something that has all those components, but in an integrated package.

I can just use this, but I was hoping that there was something more elegant. I see so many that have everything and the kitchen sink, but still want external components.

Anyone have a favorite surface mount power module?
Requirements:
-SMD
-No other components required for functionality (no resistors, external caps, filters, etc)
-5v, 500-900mA output
-12v input

You have exceeded my expectations with wonderful interactions!

I believe that the valve is located aft of the low pressure ballast tank, but I cannot confirm it in the photos that I have. If you know someone that is happening to go out to the area, and is willing to take some photographs, I am happy to provide a bit of compensation for their effort.

Sorry to hear that walking is difficult for you. I am interested in trying to see if anyone might be able to go and look at a boat that is not at the museum but nearby. It is the Kairyu that is near the Naval Training Center. I am particularly interested in locating the Kingston Valve and piping.

You are very welcome.

Thank you for your offer of help to translate I very much appreciate it. Do you ever get near the Yamato Museum?

As a side note, I recognize that our cultures are very different, I ask patience if I ever commit a cultural faux pas.

Thank you again for the interactions. It is nice to find others that have an interest in this topic. There are not too many of us in the world. Feel free to contact me and perhaps there might be an opportunity to share more information and advance our understanding. Also, a late happy birthday.

It would not be hard to conceive that 7 or more boats were fabricated by the time of the mission to Pearl Harbor.

It has been fun for me to go through my archives and even remember the various things that I have in my archives. I had forgotten a few things, and it reminded me to reach out to some people to see if they might have other information on the boat.

No need to at all. I am just sharing because it has been a while since I have seen people take an interest in this specific topic. I like to share with others the things that I have found in hopes that it will help them and that perhaps one day they will have information that will help me :)

I see no other references about the boat serial number being 19 in the report, but other hardware that had serial numbers was reported in the report.

As for why the Pearl Harbor boat is described as Ha-19, it is because the report that came out just a few weeks later used No. (number) 19 in the report on the boat.

I have attached pictures with dimensional markings on each picture in US Customary units of Feet and Inches.

It is possible that the language barrier prevented better communication.

I reached out to the author to reconcile the dimensional differences, also offering to share 3D scanning data and measurements. He did not take me up on the offer. He did indicate that the information that he had on the Type A was not as accurate as the information for the Type D.

Sorry, I meant to put Ha-51 for the Guam boat. I have included pictures before its horrendous "restoration".

Feel free to send me a direct message/chat and I can give you my contact information that I can share a larger batch of images that I have collected over the years scouring the internet or more than a handful of my own.

I have many more if you are interested.

Late reply, but here are pictures of the boat on tour around the US during the war. It was setup such that they could rotate the boat around its long axis for ease of transportation. When on site, they would rotate the boat upright and set up stairs. Viewing windows were cut unto the hull.
