Every generation needs its Galaxy Quest: a movie that, despite every individual element screaming that it can't be good, is actually good

do not ask yourself whether or art is good instead ask is it sincere was it cathartic was it fun to make is it made by me and don’t forget to stay silly
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

I will remind folks those images of Nazi book burnings aren't burning just any books. They're burning the library of Magnus Hirschfeld; a gay, Jewish doctor who created an institute dedicated to LGBTQ sex education and healthcare. And a man who pioneered gender affirming care surgeries.
YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.
THIS. We have to sharpen the conversation about AI (and critics have to get a lot more fluent in the tech) because the regulatory space is still wide open, and the current path is going to lead to bullshit “self-regulation” if people keep denying the reality of millions of people using these tools.
An illustration of a forest spirit in the middle of a body of water, the forest on fire around it. Deer-like, with leafy entwining antlers, its eyes glow against the black flowing void of its face and tail that trails in the wind, transforming into flame. Smoke billows in front and in the distance, the creature’s reflection a shadowy distortion. Surrounded and engulfed in flames, the forest spirit stands with a silent calm amidst the burning destruction of its home.

Open AI’s valuation is at $400 billion. They used about 190,000 books to train their plagiarism bot. Randomly saying 25% of their value comes from that stolen dataset, I think they owe the authors about $526,000 per stolen book.
yeah grown ass men with sausage fingers are also out there painting tiny dolls using nail art brushes so they can play house* with their friends. american men have plenty of manual dexterity

A drawing of a momma cat hugging her kitten under the stars. The caption reads, "You have survived so much. You can make it through."
So that now makes Lena McDonald, KC Crowne and Rania Faris leaving ChatGPT prompts in their ‘books’.
I’m so fucking tired, guys. If you don’t write, you’re not a writer. It’s that simple. Stop doing this to your readers, who PAY.
Readers and authors deserve better than this. 📚💙

I’m sorry but if your students use AI to write papers and you use AI to grade them zero school is happening. You are running together on a hamster wheel
i can’t believe i have to say this but DO NOT FEED OTHER PEOPLE’S WORK INTO AI. this is awful and heartbreaking.

A drawing of a baby lynx resting among snowdrop flowers. The caption reads, "you're still a good "you," even while you're not feeling like yourself"
A drawing of a tuxedo cat lying among neon flowers. The caption reads, "your existence HAS never and WILL never be burdensome"

Ohh right the WGT!! Some friends of mine used to go but I could never make it:/ I've seen In Extremo though, loved them!
Went to karate for the first time since like August (was too busy finishing my thesis) and it feels so good to be back!!
Ahhh that explains it!! I was like "since when are Die Ärzte a thing in the US??" 😂
I've never been to Leipzig myself but I hope I can make it to the annual Buchmesse there one day...
👀 chuuakuatsu!! (Just scrambling the names, no top/bottom implied)
I've seen them at festivals a couple times and it was always a great, fun show!! Don't feel pressured to answer but do you live in Germany? I've been following you/your fics for a while and always assumed you were US-based. Now I wonder if we've been country-neighbors all along 😅
Can't go wrong with Die Ärzte!
And I'm tired of reading books with my red pen hand twitching. Of saying, "Where's the plot gone?" and "Fucksake, this part literally contradicts that part" and "what are these characters *for*?" and "OK, but why do I need to know this?" Those are things you want an editor to say. Not a reader.
NEVERTHELESS.
Strong edits are hard, and take time, and produce better books by an order of magnitude. And I'd rather have a sweaty ten days now than a pile of lukewarm three star reviews for a book that could have been better.
