The level of racism that falls under matters of acceptable political difference, leaves me sceptical.

Not that ignorance absolves you from racism or the harm it does to your children, but I do see how many people used to believe that they did not have racism to unpack.

I think the current ease of access to information makes intent more relevant. Before now, I think it’s, in many cases, a mix of genuine ignorance and a subconscious preservation of one’s self perception as a moral person, and the assumption that one’s society is mostly fair.

And, if we’re to entertain the notion that it’s an altruistic endeavour, it only becomes a more salient point of critique against transnational interracial adoption, that knowledge or education on racism is rarely, if ever, offered to or required of prospective adopters.

Being “colourblind” is to be blind to structural racism, which is probably how you end up with the (racist) assumption that your child won’t be subject to racism because of their proximity to you, and/or because they’ll be “one of the good ones” (be it subconscious or not!)

Similar issue is extremely common in a lot of white people who have mixed kids (and be extension, their racialised partners).
