In Brussels yesterday, the UK and EU ratified the agreement to bring UK into Erasmus+ in 2027, with the British Council becoming the National Agency for Erasmus+ in the UK. With 100,000 people estimated to benefit from it in the first year alone, this is a huge advance for UK-EU relations.
Keir Starmer is right to put Brexit in the bin. The New Statesman, 16 April.
Keir Starmer has been clear that a stronger, closer relationship with Europe is in the UK's best interest. So, why is he sticking to outdated red lines that are holding the nation back from its rightful place at the heart of Europe?
This is so good to see that the UK rejoining #Erasmus is confirmed. 🤩🏴🇬🇧🇪🇺
(The people of Scotland never voted to leave, of course. #LeaveALightOn #RejoinOurEU)

Family spends £1,600 to get home after easyJet flight leaves without them due to EES chaos. Of the 156 passengers booked on easyJet flight from Milan to Manchester, only 34 boarded. The Independent, 13 April.
Alongside these unexpected costs, it has also been reported that on one occasion, no-one had arrived at the departure gate at the time it was meant to close for a flight.
There's a simple solution to this: rejoin the single market, and restore freedom of movement.
Addressing the House of Commons today, Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, said we must have "a closer economic relationship with our European allies because Brexit did deep damage to the economy". Now, these words need to be matched with a clear, concrete plan.

Yet another thing #Brexit stole from us… 😢
Let’s hope that the UK’s rejoining of #Erasmus will restore this wonderful and #sustainable travel opportunity for our young people in future years. 🤞
Or maybe we should just #RejoinSingleMarket or #RejoinEU! What do you think? 🏴🇬🇧🇪🇺

At a press conference this morning, Sir Keir Starmer has stated that "our long term national interest requires closer partnership with our allies in Europe and with the European Union." We couldn't agree more.
BBC News, 1 April. UK will seek closer ties with EU in light of Iran war, Starmer says. It comes as UK-US relations have been strained by the PM's refusal to be dragged further into the Iran war.
Starmer has today said that "it is increasingly clear that as the world continues down this volatile path, our long-term national interest requires closer partnership with our allies in Europe". Security lies in cooperation, not isolation - who better to partner with than our closest allies?
With talk of new ties, our festivalofeuropescotland.org event on "Future EU-UK relations - the state of play" will be highly topical. Experts looking at UK trade, business, energy, politics, and Scotland's links with EU. Sunday 10 May, Edinburgh. Details: festivalofeuropescotland.org/event/future...

Today, the Council greenlit talks with the UK on agreements on:
- participation in the EU’s internal electricity market
- financial contribution to the EU’s cohesion policy
It also agreed to allow the 🇬🇧 participation in the Erasmus+ programme for 2027.
