the amount of times RoboFont crashed on my face today is infuriating. and somehow I am still cool as a cucumber. go figure.

that's the plan! but until I can implement it on my site, I am considering substack.
writers (amateurs included), what's your preferred archiving method? I mean, do you save a copy of everything? How/where? I'll soon move my newsletter(s) out of MailChimp and am wondering if I should back up the WiT reviews, interviews, and more reflective content.
The Bear season 4 is a fucking master piece!
🥁 Welcome INDIA STREET LETTERING, the book! 🥁
I’m working with @blaft.bsky.social to bring together my documentation of letterforms from India’s cities into a 200-page hardcover full-colour book.
Support the project on Kickstarter ➡️ www.kickstarter.com/projects/bla... I promise it’ll be amazing!
what are you doing this week?
me: writing/editing recaps for all 6 months of my sprint experiment, and watching TypeLab talks 🤓
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?
Fonts regularly take multiple years to make, and developing a small typeface family can easily cost $50k.
The TypeLab schedule is live on this page 2025.typographics.com/typelab/ now. Grab your free tickets and join TypeLab online and/or in-person June 25–29
as technology evolves, and consequently the way we make & use type, font licensing is probably the one aspect of the industry that has been stuck in the old ways the most. help us figure out what needs to change.
have you ever forced yourself to work on a moody day just to trash every-single-bit once your head is straight?
ladies and gentlemen, we have reached 450 glyphs x 6 masters (upright & italic)! now onto more testing/polishing, kerning, and promo images... LygiaSans v0.4 incoming 😁
not sure if I am lucky or not to be the one always explaining all things font-related—especially that, yes, there are humans creating them.
for those of you who enjoy drawing numbers: what’s the secret?
Alphabet and numbers in a monospaced typeface (MD System Mono, specifically), arranged in a grid. In the bottom row, ‘$0’ (zero dollars) is highlighted in bright red.
Maybe you’ve heard: every font is free! Since fonts aren’t subject to copyright, you can legally ‘pirate’ them if you use a specific loophole!
...except that’s not really true. I’ve seen this claim repeated quite a lot recently, and it’s missing some pretty important nuance.
🧵 A thread:
"the sooner you accept that it's going to take longer than you want, the sooner it happens faster than you expect."—wise words by @alexhormozi.bsky.social. basically the pep talk I've been giving myself since january.
the bliss of simply copy/pasting 336 glyphs from sans to serif!
I honestly didn't expect drawing arrows would be such an ordeal.
Current status: watching Future Fonts’ HyperTalks livestream:
wish me luck with the next 500+ glyphs per master and the 2 display styles I have yet to start!
I am about to cross (drawing/polishing) 158 glyphs over 6 masters for Lygia Sans. that's 948 glyphs in 3 months. actually, 1278—forgot to count the revisions on its serif counterpart.
this is the first year in a while (since 2020?) that I see a bunch of friends and people I admire posting about TDC certificates. have they made a comeback?
I'd add Comma Sans to the list 😉

have you tried mate tea instead of coffee? I brew my own (quite strong) and drink it iced, mixed with lemonade, in the morning. one large glass, and I am good to go!
amidst loads of crap ai generated content, the type industry seems to be swimming in the opposite direction, producing great articles, interviews, newsletters, etc... making me miss writing more frequently. but I promised this first semester would be for font production only. focus, Flavia. focus!
is it just me or this week is pretty depressing?
fuuun!
fun!
yeeees!! 💥💥
