Happy publication day to Ashley Hickson-Lovence and ABOUT TO FALL APART - a beautiful and powerfully written snapshot into a troubled mind that explores themes of race, masculinity and parenthood. Ashley will be discussing the book with Andrew McMillan at @serenitybookshop.bsky.social next week! 📚💙

A fantastic event last night listening to the incredible Melissa Auf der Maur chat to Terri White about her new memoir EVEN THE GOOD GIRLS WILL CRY.

The post event pub chat with Terri and Naomi Frisby was even better!

March reads…

Jean - Madeleine Dunnigan
IT - Stephen King
About to Fall Apart - Ashley Hickson-Lovence
Charlie the Choo Choo - Beryl Evans
Figures Crossing the Field Towards the Group - Rebecca Gransden

All good stuff. Adored Jean and loved how About to Fall Apart and Figures… played with language.

A fantastic event in Stockport tonight with @stuhennigan.bsky.social to celebrate the release of his debut novel KESHED. A dark and brutal look at modern masculinity, class and mental health which is also infused with Northern humour and a lot of love. Huge thanks to Jae for hosting!

Stu looking all windswept

@stuhennigan.bsky.social has a new book out called Keshed, last year he updated his author q&a on the Big Bearded Bookseller blog where he talked about this as a work-in-progress

#GetKeshed @serenitybookshop.bsky.social next Thursday with me and Terri. Had a blinding time last night and can't wait to get back for another go-round. Force of nature is Terri and she was on top form yesterday, we're a pretty good double act. And the book chat's not bad either 👍

So great to see KESHED out in the world! I read it last year and have been dying to get it into the hands of customers! Very much looking forward to catching up with @stuhennigan.bsky.social at our event in Stockport next week. Join us!

Lancs/Mancs and other folk from that neck of the woods - if Leeds is too much of a stretch for the Keshed launch, doing one the week after in Stockport @serenitybookshop.bsky.social with HUGE thanx to old comrade @oziasmidwinter.bsky.social for organising.

My journey to The Dark Tower is complete!

Started off the year having never read any @stephenking.bsky.social but since the Summer I’ve been reading an expanded reading list including The Stand, ‘Salem’s Lot, Insomnia and Hearts in Atlantis alongside the main eight books - what a ride! Loved it!

My favourite films of the year. No particular order but One Battle After Another and Sinners take the top two spots. Sister Midnight was criminally under seen - a delightfully dark, Lynchian gem!

Favourite books of 2025

For the last 3/4 months of the year I’ve been sidetracked by my quest to the Dark Tower so I feel there were quite a lot of 2025 novels that I missed, but I still read a lot of great books that were published over the last 12 months and these are my 15 favourites… #Booksky
