I am really excited to finally be able to share the news that Vincent Dartigue, a grad student in my lab, was selected for the #HHMI #GilliamFellows #Fellowship! Vincent is (IMHO) doing really important work to understand how lipids regulate protein turnover in metabolism!
Congratulations 2025 Gilliam Fellows and Advisors! ๐
The Gilliam Fellows Program launches promising PhD students into impactful scientific research careers while fostering inclusive training environments.
Through this program, HHMI supports both graduate students and their faculty thesis advisors.
Excited to share new work from the lab characterizing substrate recognition & inhibition of site-one protease (S1P). Cool biochemistry lead by talented postbac Ashley Bullington. A very fun and stimulating collaboration with the Zelcer lab!

Cryo-EM structures and model for interaction between SPRING and S1P protiens
Highlighting the first paper from my new lab at UTSW! With the Zelcer lab at U Amsterdam, we discovered how a chaperone protein called SPRING licenses S1P to cleave its substrates such as SREBP2. Paper here: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38977690/
Cryo-EM structures of an oxygen-regulated enzyme
Excited to share the the final version of our collaborative manuscript with the Gilles-Gonzalez lab at UTSW Biochemistry
on the structural basis by which oxygen regulates the activity of a bacterial phosphodiesterase! Link: rdcu.be/dZujz
