That's $185.37. What if half the country withheld some or all of that amount, or even a symbolic amount, and redirected it instead to the victims of state/military violence against people and planet, or to life affirming projects?
Report below estimates that the average household is spending $8.41 of their tax bill on the 2025 Iran bombing (with 2026 campaign yet to be tallied), $57.86 on aid to foreign militaries (genocide in Gaza), $79.19 on CBP and $39.91 on ICE.

I had the great pleasure of talking to my friend Eli Clare about his new book, Unfurl, and the long arc of his exquisite work shaping trans politics and disability justice over the last many decades.

Knowing who to be mad at is praxis.
I think I’d rather drive across the entire country in a rented Ford Fiesta than wait in a 6 hour security line that had ICE agents at the front of it.
time to consider this again (if it wasn't already). a good start on how: nwtrcc.org/PDFs/5%20ste...
Myriam Gurba presents THE HARD STUFF, a six-day craft seminar and workshop where we will access different techniques that enhance, enrich, and complicate prose that addresses the defining word of our age: TRAUMA! Magic realism, ancestral influence, co-authorship with the more-than human, humor, epistolary perspectives, and multimedia authorship will be the themes that structure our first five meetings. The final meeting will be participant led. For more information, email gurbamyriam@gmail.com (mailto:gurbamyriam@gmail.com)
I’ll be facilitating a writing seminar and workshop soon!
"I do not need to point out the parallels. I *do* need you to help us ensure that this history is *not* allowed to repeat itself. LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND." amazing work by @piperbomb.bsky.social for @assignedmedia.org
yep, that was me too at AWP
I have never been back but I dream about it every year.
The one time I got to go to AWP it was because AWP came to us right as things were shutting down for COVID…and the local writers’ org was fire enough to get a bunch of comped registrations for local writers…I probably shouldn’t have risked it but wanted to go SO BAD…
of what it might mean to break the curse of colonial history, disrupting the violence we may not have caused but which we all inherit just by living our lives on stolen lands.
those closest to us buy into the cruelty and contempt of the powerful for vulnerable others—whether you’re from Boyle Heights or Pilsen or the Westside of San Antonio. In characters like Edward Martinez, Kenton Weaver and the many coyotes that run in and out of the story, we are likewise reminded…
our own complicity in the histories that have produced the Harper murders. Enjoy the fun of a good mystery, but also the deeply felt and complexly realized characters who remind us of our own familia, good bad and ugly—especially the heartbreak that comes when…
to the suburban tract housing and mini-mansions that ring the outskirts of LA. Known for his slam poetry, Romero brings the music and weight of his words to the whodunnit form, skillfully guiding his storytelling so that in the end we’re all forced to confront…
Like a Chicanx American Psycho for the Trump era, The Enemy Sleeps undertakes a disturbing but page-turning rumination on the sociopathies of whiteness and settler colonialism at the core of all urban development, from the Spanish missions…
I don’t think David Romero’s on Bluesky, but I was excited to get his bombass book in the mail. I blurbed it but took way too long so I don’t think he could use it. But here’s what I wrote:
"It’s about time I focused on finishing the novel I plan to call Paco Cohen is Alive and Well and Living on Mars." labloga.blogspot.com/2026/02/chic...
this is how I feel about most social appearances, tbh. just let me write!
worked on this for a couple months with @harmanity.bsky.social and @viktoriavalenzuela.bsky.social and rly proud how it came out...people sent some amazing art & writing.
A small thing but for anyone with small children trying to explain what’s going on I would highly recommend the book “Noodlephant.” A fantastic parable about the power of community defense and mutual aid to combat fascism and racism, and the inherent violence of policing
that…is very weird.
