"Whether recording under his own name or as The Sight Below, Irisarri’s work is characterized by a physical sense of scale."
Superb interview by @dhla.me, from loneliness to the joys of Expert Sleepers Augustus Loop:

yep, a day late here, was ... faiiiiirly sick ha
Zebra 3 arrives for Mac, Windows, and Linux -- @uheplugins.bsky.social calls it a "wireless modular."
From spline-based morphing oscillators to physical modeling and through-zero FM synthesis, this is a horse of a different stripe.
The phrase is now twenty years old, but maybe now is a perfect time for "cultural analytics." I mean, at least meanwhile I'm having fun dumping folders on this free tool -- all running locally.
Now with that done, looks like I'll be looking at u-he latest Zebra build finally over the weekend! @uheplugins.bsky.social I haven't forgotten you, just ... slightly overwhelmed atm :D
Brian Clevinger's work (including at Plasmonic) always has such character. I was just trying to illustrate mono vs. poly LFOs, and you get some gorgeous sounds with simple modulation of the fractal oscillator alone. (sounds even better with the Aetherizer but then you can't hear the demo!)
As usual, Absynth is deep once you dig in. So here's a detailed explanation of how LFO phase and retriggering works in 6.1 (including a v1 feature come back to life!), what auto trigger is, and how the audio modulator works.
Right but... no, totally not. ;) I think the whole point here is that you drop the proprietary player, that you just work with any turntable. That was the promise of DVS, but it *also* required a computer or something to run it, and it tended not to be all that stable.
That’s not really possible :) I mean just burn the MP3 to CD basically. But if you found a way to make the platter you could make your own CDJ with this basic approach.
It's about time that DJing wasn't entirely dependent on *one* proprietary product ecosystem.
And yeah, you could use this in place of CDJs. The USB stick matters, too -- a lot of artist/labels can't afford to press and ship vinyl. But you still play on a turntable.
What if DJing could get back to its roots -- like, turntables -- with something that wasn't expensive and proprietary? And you could still show up with just a USB stick:
The entire problem with the current tech scene can be summed up by the question from the interviewer at 5'16", asking Jobs, hey, why did you model the iMac after the computers in the Jetsons and not 2001: A Space Odyssey??
Uh...
This is nicely recession-proof: eight UA plug-ins you can use anywhere, now on top of their free DAW, which is really worth a look if it hasn't been on your radar.
Here's a breakdown of what's in there.
Totally, yes. I do expect that this was in development before the acquisition, though, despite the way some press have framed it. But anyway, it's the same team in charge of the product.
I'm afraid of offending some hardcore Reason users. But ... that sequencer *always* felt clunky and tacked on to me. So I am finding it blissfully fun doing arrangements and even that it's easier to navigate Racks -- like even when just patching synths etc. -- via the new Panel!
Liquid and hypnotic, @sinevibes.bsky.social Duality is a different breed of vibrato.

Some @manifestaudio.bsky.social + minimal + AAS action going here...
Evidence continues to mount. It's tough, too, as a lot of us have forgotten even which of our music is there -- a track on a compilation, that label used a DSP, etc. etc. So part of this is going to wind up being building up that value and independence, not only boycotts. Fighting a firehose.
Feels like that should be a compilation
I went more extreme and just installed Mac OS 9 and went back to generating sounds with Soundhack and then like piecing them together in SoundEdit as slowly as I can.
Yeah, are you testing the beta? Wow, it's really a pleasure jumping around the Track Panel.
It's impressive the workflow stuff they've crammed in here -- now with normalization, SD card access, per-pad lock loop position, knob takeover modes, and more. Here's the rundown, plus one of the better video reviews:
"Preserving inner balance and humanity becomes an important task."
Kaximia reports from this weekend's Synth Days events in Kyiv -- and reflects on how these community events help during war.
Gonna share the story tomorrow but -- just get ready for Ukrainian alphabet boot camp with puppets!
Between Reason, VCV Rack, and Multiphonics CV-3, wow... and I haven't even gotten back into Reaktor Blocks in a while. And it just means you *always* have a studio full of gear handy. That is such a mental health saver, really, to be able to just go there.
Nope, still don't understand genAI, when you can just like boot up Reason and just... lose an hour, make a song even when you're completely fried and uninspired.
And now that Track Panel can remove a lot of the cognitive friction.
It's just stupidly easy to add Players and get something lovely.
Now here's some great inspiration for your weekend.
I really appreciate the clever design here. Via a set of switches and extra jacks, this little module can do more than you think. Also, cats. Smart stuff from our friends in Brno:
I'll say it once again: steal this article! Steal my sources! Steal my ideas, if I'm lucky! Please!
There are fresh nightmares from the past 24 hours. But that should not be a sign to stop giving -- least of all when music efforts were translating into real results on the ground.
So I'm putting out this call again. What we need is more international support, including media.
See, I can do that for you and I don't charge a subscription! :D
