There's a lot of outright obvious racism of course (especially from the other side of the aisle), but people saying things like "hmm idk if she's electable" is a racist dog whistle usually translating to "Texans won't vote for her because she's a black woman, so I won't either".

Don't do that.

We need to check ourselves. You don't have to vote for her to prove it, but make sure your reasons aren't based on unexamined racist talking points.

Most of the ppl we're debating with are our allies. So uh, don't be racist at them, accidentally or otherwise. Pause. Be better. Check yourself.

Reminder to my white friends in particular: Evaluate yourself & make sure your arguments for or against candidates aren't rooted in systemic racism, misogyny, etc. Congresswoman Crockett is exceptional, period. There's valid criticisms, and a LOT of racist dog whistles out there. Yikes.

I'm supporting James Talarico, as he speaks to the tiny seed of faith I keep guarded deep inside, but you can sure bet I'll have a Jasmine Crockett bumper sticker ASAP if she wins the primary.

But y'all:

TX Dems don't know how to handle a contested primary with more than one qualified candidate, it seems. Which is fair, we're not very accustomed to having multiple good options. But damn, y'all.

My Democratic colleagues and I just left the state of Texas to break quorum and stop Trump’s redistricting power grab.

Trump is trying to rig the midterm elections right before our eyes. But first he’ll have to come through us.

It’s time to fight back.

I’ve spent most of the last decade doing candidate recruitment so I feel qualified to say this:

If you do not like the person running, find someone to run against them or run yourself. Especially this far out from the election & filing deadlines, this is an option available to you if you so chose!

While working the election booths, I finished reading a book called "Atomic Habits" (that I actually started during my trip to El Paso for the TDP convention) and it gave me the motivation and strategy I needed to create a new habit.

One of the hidden perks of my new habit of taking a walk after work every evening is that i get more time with these beautiful sunsets.

I started taking a walk after work immediately after the election. It was my form of reclaiming control over my life. It has been quite rewarding.

If you want to handle this democratically, start prepping for the 2026 midterms to take back Congress.

If you don't want to wait for (or don't trust) electoral politics, then you're in the wrong Democratic Cat Memes FB group.

Something frustrates me about all the posts in seeing on FB Democratic pages about "What do we do now? How do we stop him?"

Any election in the past 10 years was the time to stop him. Now it's time for damage control, defense, and harm reduction.

Help somebody get through this.

As a Sociologist, I need to tell you

the chaos cascade (200+ exec orders) isn't dysfunction β€” it's disaster capitalism's playbook. your confusion = their strategy.

I've grown a bit jaded with politics since my campaign. It was a short stint, but I got to see some of the political machinery up close.

I'm glad that I pivoted & put my energy into community efforts, closer to home, through non-profit work.

It's harder to be jaded when seeing your neighbors.

So what are you doing to help make the world a better place? In even the smallest ways. The little things add up.

Still loving our outfits for last weekend's Equality Texas gala.
The theme was "Texas Hold 'Em" because this year, we're gonna hold the line against the onslaught in the Texas Legislature.

Lately, I've been reading a book 'Atomic Habits' that really breaks down how to change your routines and make things 1% better. (If you're interested in self-help books, I also highly recommend a book called The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. No joke, I credit this book as saving my life.)
