Look, SecDef just needs someone compatible, someone who can work with him. You know, someone you can have a beer with.

When all this is over, I'll keep coming back to the fact that the US both 1) un-sanctioned Iranian oil and 2) blocked Iranian oil exports within a 30-day period as the best encapsulation of the strategic incoherence of this whole war.

Any Dem who runs on a platform of ending every single government contract with Palantir, then hiring a team of experts to undo the damage these fascist dorks have done to our infrastructure, communications and personnel, not only has my vote, but has my donation checks and volunteer hours as well.

Burchett is right: the most DC thing ever *is* a member of Congress blaming the city for something he and his colleagues did themselves.

Opinion | Trump Corrupts, and Absolute Trump Corrupts Absolutely

“To say that President Trump is corrupt is to somehow understate the size, scope and magnitude of his corruption.

It is as if you were to describe a modern thermonuclear device as a ‘bomb.’ That is true enough, but it is not quite the truth. It does not capture the nature of the thing in full.”

Jtbc, Trump Media was not a legitimate company, but rather a money-laundering vehicle via which parties could bribe the incoming President-elect.

Nunes didn't leave until he was able to cash out over $46M in stock options (with a company that reported only $5M in revenue).

The map on the left shows how Mississippi voted in the 1964 presidential election between Republican Barry Goldwater and Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson—back during Jim Crow when Mississippi still did not allow Black residents to vote.

The map on the right is the 2023 governor's race.

Fast-food chains use Alabama prison inmates as slave labor, lawsuit alleges The number of prisoners granted parole has plummeted, and prison officials force many of those inmates to work off site in a scheme that generates $450 million a year for the state, the lawsuit said.

Anyone who mocks Ocasio-Cortez for being a bartender - rather than seeing those skills are a significant part of her arsenal - is the sort of person who's never in their life gotten a free drink.

Alright, I’m home now so here’s the Norm update. Yesterday at 4pm, I got a text from a family I’ve been helping who had a loved one abducted a couple of days after Renée Good’s murder. This was the family that Norm Nation kept from being evicted (and you delivered). ICE had released their loved one.

The Tonight Show is built to liquify all phenomena into content. Trump, the political reactionary and demagogue, the harbinger of a crisis, was treated not as a threat to democracy or a figure of public concern, but just another wacky celebrity guest willing to play along. Fallon and his show are not horrifying because they are malevolent, actively creating suffering in the world, but because of a thoughtless, systematic refusal to perceive any of their work as having ethical consequences. Trump’s monstrosity becomes merely eccentric, as neoliberal media packaged as entertainment normalizes a failing status quo.
