Disassembled Logitech G502X with parts distributed as a rough explosion diagram.

Long time no post and this is very off topic, but I have to give respect to the people assembling these G502X mice for Logitech. Most mice have electronics on the shell. Here we’ve got everything on a central frame and the buttons weave through that frame. Some of my instruments are simpler.

You could centrifuge again after derivatization, but you might be better off trying to dry in stages to get a small final volume before lyophilization.

In the end, you’re not going to get full recovery, but your istd will account for your losses.

The dilution would likely keep the stoichiometry sensible to the extent that it is known. Still, with a small final volume and a large vessel, you’re going to have major losses (assuming those are the losses you’re talking about?).

I have a fear that at this rate it may become difficult to get visas for international scholars. The US has been a sought after training ground for scientists from around the world. Many stayed after their training, providing a huge boost to our STEM capabilities. What will that look like by Fall?

I suspect you’ll need to provide more experimental detail. Your references aren’t directly great for that either apart from the Shimadzu prep. You’re lyoing 25mL in a 50mL tube vs their 250uL in a 1.5mL tube, but still using the same amount of reagent. Seems like a mismatch in scale.

This new piece showcases 100 natural products. Many of the syntheses of these compounds have had significant impacts in organic synthesis.
There are many different structural and functional motifs that have required amazing innovations in synthesis. And one of mine is in there too! #chemsky #sciart

This is an old list, fry’s electronics went out of business in 2021. Any chance your source has an update?

Great news.

I remember when the family with a mutation in a sodium channel was discovered.

This follows my general rule: it often takes 25 years to go from new mechanistic discovery to first approved medicine.

Saddened to learn today of Martin Karplus’ passing over the weekend. He was an absolute luminary and founding force in computational chemistry and biophysics. His influence will be felt for many generations of scientists. May he rest in peace.

Could be a glass blower’s practice piece for attaching such connections? Erlenmeyer flasks are a cheap substrate.

Or, you know, any of the valid use cases above.

Submit AI generated drivel, promise to pay them for the publication as soon as your next grant on that topic comes in.

Someone has to be responding to these invitations for them to keep at it, right? Or is this some kind of avant garde performance art?

TIL there are automated melting point apparatus. And here I thought I was fancy because ours had a built in oil bath and a vintage mercury thermometer.

I wanna do a natural products piece of art. What are your favorite natural products or total syntheses?

I love the sesquiterpines from Maimone, pleuromutilin from Reisman, ryanodol from Inoue, axinellamines from Baran, and ET-743 from Fukuyama #ChemSky

Syntheses of compounds with fully substituted five membered rings were always interesting to me. Corey’s Ginkolide B is a classic. Johnson’s Pactamycin was one I appreciated.

Target compound elutes at 98% B, but you ran a gradient and got great separation. Illusory accomplishment.

Alternatively, you fill properly, but the proportioning valve jammed.

I haven’t worked on a PAL in a decade, but I remember rehoming and re-teaching positions frequently…

Does it only fail to release the SPME head? If it struggles with multiple tools, try cleaning the tool receiver.

We’ve had commercial assays delivered where the fluorescent reporter was not as written. Hard to do NMR or MS when the compound is not disclosed, but a spectral scan will at least show where the Ex/Em are.

This looks like a 180L tank. You can get either 230 or 250L tanks that are effectively welded to a cart with a pull handle attached at the bottom.

The larger vessel is more squat, lowering the center of gravity and the risk of tipping is lower since you’re not pushing from the top.
