Syrskyi praises Ukraine’s Military Law Enforcement Service for expanding combat role Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has expressed his appreciation for the service members of the Military Law Enforcement Service (VSP) and the veterans who have rejoined its ranks since the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion. In a statement on Facebook marking the Day of the Military Law Enforcement Service, Syrskyi emphasized that the VSP is “much more than a body for control and response,” noting that its evolving capabilities have proven it can act not only as a law enforcement agency but also as an effective combat component. According to Syrskyi, military law enforcement officers are responsible for upholding legality, reinforcing military discipline, countering violations, and maintaining stability within the armed forces, in addition to a wide range of duties. He drew particular attention to the rapid development of the VSP’s combat potential, pointing out that, “in an extremely short time, special purpose units have been created and expanded, now performing counter-sabotage tasks in areas of active combat.” Their professionalism, determination, and valor, Syrskyi said, have demonstrated that the Military Law Enforcement Service is capable of being both a law enforcement and a highly effective combat force. Syrskyi also thanked current VSP personnel and veterans who have returned to serve since the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale aggression, saying they are effectively carrying out their duties and helping to train the next reliable generation. On April 15 , Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi participated in a meeting of the chiefs of defense and chiefs of staff of the member nations of the “Coalition of the Willing,” where they discussed implementing security guarantees for Ukraine with participating multinational forces.

German city Hanau seeks security assistance after Chairman of Russia's Security Council Medvedev names local company a potential target After Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council Dmitry Medvedev warned that a published list by the Russian Defense Ministry of factories in European countries - allegedly producing components for Ukrainian drones – should be seen as a list of "potential targets" for Russian armed forces, officials in the German city of Hanau reached out to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Bundesverfassungsschutz, BfV), reports the outlet Hessenschau . The list, released by Russia's defense ministry on April 15 via Telegram, named 21 companies across 12 countries in Europe. Among them: 3W Professional, a firm based in Hanau, located in the state of Hesse in western Germany, as well as two companies from Munich. The document includes not just company names but their addresses as well. Actions taken by European states could result in the "creeping transformation of these countries into Ukraine's strategic rear," according to Russia’s Defense Ministry. Meanwhile, Medvedev, in a post on his X account , threatened: "When strikes (by Russia on production sites for Ukrainian drone components) become a reality depends on what happens next." He added, "Sleep tight, dear partners." Hanau's mayor, Claus Kaminsky, said he learned that his city was mentioned in the Russian ministry’s list from media reports. "Media are reporting that the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution warns of a growing threat and has already contacted affected companies. To keep Hanau’s residents informed, we have established contact with the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the police unit responsible for state security, local police, and the government administration in Darmstadt." Kaminsky called Medvedev's comments an attempt at intimidation. "Intimidation often works through disinformation and a lack of information," he said. "Such attempts must not be allowed to succeed in Hanau. We need transparency and information for our citizens." The mayor declined to comment on Russian claims that the Hanau-based company is involved in producing drones for Ukraine. According to the 3W Professional website, the company offers solutions for industrial drone engine manufacturing, among other services. As of publication, the company itself had not commented on Medvedev's threats.

Ukraine close to finalizing security guarantees as military subgroup ends talks, Budanov says Efforts to finalize security guarantees for Ukraine are in their final stages, with the military subgroup having completed its negotiations, according to the head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, Kyrylo Budanov, said in an interview with Moldova-based outlet "Malenkaya Strana". "Security guarantees are the number one issue," Budanov said, emphasizing it as the most important factor for Ukraine's future. He added that negotiations are approaching a conclusion, but signaled that many other topics remain under negotiation. "We have, naturally, not yet found a final solution on territorial issues between us and the Russian Federation," Budanov admitted. Despite this, the military subgroup has "completely finished" its track, including deliberations on the post-conflict security regime. Budanov described this as "a major achievement." Earlier statements by Budanov on April 10 indicated progress in talks with Russia and suggested that an agreement could be reached soon. He said at the time that a resolution to the war could potentially arrive sooner than anticipated. However, on April 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the Kremlin has no plans to resume negotiations with Ukraine, saying talks are not a priority for Moscow. Previously, Focus reported on possible compromises being explored by Kyiv and Moscow during these negotiations.

Moldova declares Russian military commanders in Transnistria undesirable as tensions escalate Moldovan authorities have officially designated the leadership of the Russian military contingent in Transnistria as “undesirable persons,” in a move seen as escalating pressure on the breakaway region. According to a report from Moldpres , citing Moldovan parliamentary speaker Igor Grosu, four to five high-ranking officers of the so-called Operational Group of Russian Forces in Transnistria have been blacklisted, including the group’s top commander in the region, Dmitry Zelenkov. “I can confirm that this is true. We have declared 4-5 individuals as undesirable. The reason is very simple and clear: the Russian army is illegally present on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. We have summoned the courage and made this decision,” Grosu stated. The blacklisted individuals are currently located in Transnistria—a region outside the effective control of the Moldovan government—making their immediate expulsion impossible, Grosu explained. “When they arrive on the right bank (under Moldovan control), we will politely ask them to return home,” he said. Effectively, Russian commanders have become isolated within the occupied territory: Moldova stands ready to detain them on one side, while Ukraine borders the other. In addition to Zelenkov, the “undesirable” list includes three of his deputies—Dmitry Opalev, Sergey Mashchenko, and Sergey Shirshov—along with chief-of-staff Marat Yarulin and financial officer Alexei Bogomolov. Russian troops have maintained a presence in Transnistria since 1992, numbering up to 1,500 personnel—many of whom are local residents with Russian citizenship. The core of the command, roughly 100 officers, comes directly from Russia. This announcement follows Moldova’s recent steps to distance itself from Moscow, including the parliament’s move to withdraw from a key CIS agreement . Moldovan authorities have also recently outlined a plan for the reintegration and dismantling of the separatist administration in Transnistria.

Ukrainian military achieves world’s first sea-based drone interception of Russian ‘Shahed’ UAV Ukraine’s Defense Forces have intercepted a Russian “Shahed” drone using an interceptor UAV launched from a surface maritime platform—a world first. The unprecedented operation was carried out by the 412th Nemesis Brigade, part of the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF). According to the USF, this marks the first-ever successful interception of an attack UAV using an interceptor drone deployed from a maritime platform. Video of the operation was published April 19 on the official USF Facebook page . “This is a new level of integration between maritime and aerial unmanned capabilities. Employing surface platforms to launch interceptor drones adds an extra layer of protection for Ukrainian cities,” officials with the USF said. Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, also commented on the significance of the breakthrough. “The USF is deploying at sea with unmanned surface platforms carrying interceptor drones to hunt ‘Shaheds’ and other aerial targets
The skies will be cleaner,” he said. Brovdi noted that these platforms would operate on “open waters.” “The first successful interceptions were achieved by the unmanned surface systems battalion of the 412th USF Nemesis Brigade. A similar, newly created battalion is currently being deployed with the 414th USF Brigade,” Brovdi added.

Ilya Remeslo, former Kremlin propagandist, denounces Putin and claims Russia no longer exists as a state after his release from a psychiatric clinic In a striking new development, outspoken pro-Kremlin blogger Ilya Remeslo—recently discharged from a psychiatric clinic following his sharp criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin—has made fresh statements condemning the current regime and renouncing his support for the Russian government. Remeslo's U-turn was posted on his official Telegram channel, where he explained his break with the Kremlin and challenged those who continue to support the Russian state. Remeslo argued that Russia has fundamentally changed, rendering his previous political views obsolete. According to Remeslo, the country he once supported between 2014 and 2021 “no longer exists.” He highlighted that, in his view, during those years Russia had not launched a full-scale war against Ukraine, wasn’t subjected to severe internet censorship, or widespread political repression, and the economy was relatively stable. “I defended a state that has long ceased to exist. Accordingly, I no longer have any obligation to support the president now,” Remeslo wrote. Addressing critics who accused him of abruptly changing sides, Remeslo asserted that pressuring individuals distancing themselves from the authorities only benefits the Kremlin. He claimed that many people with ties to the government would like to speak their minds but fear criminal prosecution and public backlash. Remeslo was long seen as an active supporter of the Kremlin and was frequently involved in scandals related to denunciations and public attacks against government opponents. His hospitalization, widely discussed in Russian media space, raised questions about possible pressure on public figures who diverge from the government line. Criticism of Putin is becoming increasingly vocal within Russia, with Remeslo’s move dubbed as a “conspiracy” or a sign of growing dissent inside the Kremlin.

Budanov says Ukraine could retake Transnistria by force but rules out a peaceful takeover Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, says he does not believe Ukraine could take control of Moldova’s Russian-occupied Transnistria region “without a single shot being fired.” Speaking with the Moldovan YouTube channel “Malenkaya Strana” , Budanov explained that a peaceful scenario is unlikely, but with the use of force, Ukraine could potentially gain control of the region. “I personally don’t believe in a scenario with not a single shot fired. If you ask if we can do it—of course, we can. With shooting, yes, but we can,” Budanov stated. When asked under what circumstances Ukraine might move to implement such a scenario, the presidential office chief said it was too early to discuss such details. In the same interview, Budanov said that Russia has not abandoned its plans for Transnistria, but is now focusing not on outright escalation, but on a “war of fears.” According to Budanov, Moscow is concerned about the safety of its contingent in Transnistria and is preparing for possible scenarios by reinforcing its forces. Against this backdrop, Ukraine is bolstering its military presence at the border with the breakaway region- a standard measure under these circumstances, Budanov added. Earlier, Moldova has, for the first time in 20 years, unveiled a strategy for peacefully reintegrating Transnistria under Chisinau’s control, with demilitarization as a key condition.

Slovak prime minister says Lithuania and Latvia blocked his flight to Moscow parade for second year Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico says he planned to attend a Moscow parade in May, but Lithuania and Latvia have denied his plane passage through their airspace for the second year in a row. Fico made the remarks in a video address shared on Facebook . “Lithuania and Latvia have already informed us they will not allow passage through their territories on the way to Moscow,” Fico said. The Slovak leader added that he will find an alternative route for his trip, noting he had to do the same last year after “Estonia torpedoed” his travel plans. Last year, Estonia , followed by Poland and Lithuania, prohibited Fico from flying through their airspace as he sought to visit Moscow for the May 9 celebrations.

Ukrainian counterattacks stall Russian offensives near Pokrovsk and Chasiv Yar Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to wage active counterattacks along key points of the frontline, undermining Russian attempts to capture crucial areas including the Pokrovsk region, Chasiv Yar, and other contested sectors. Despite occasional tactical gains, Russian troops have repeatedly failed to achieve their operational objectives even after years of intense fighting, according to military analyst Aleksandr Kovalenko . Moscow’s forces are reportedly suffering heavy losses and remain unable to secure control over vital settlements. Ukrainian defenders, meanwhile, are gradually reclaiming territory with a series of coordinated counterattacks. In the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration, Ukraine’s Defense Forces maintain systematic and aggressive operations. On a near-daily basis, Ukrainian troops set the stage for successful infantry action, followed by sweep teams and raiding units to solidify gains. The situation in northern Pokrovsk highlights Ukraine’s tactical edge: This area remains under remote control by Ukrainian forces, who are leveraging drones to inflict significant damage and prevent Russian units from consolidating their positions. Russian advances here continue to come at a steep cost, with large numbers of personnel taken out before even reaching the zones of engagement. Even with considerable manpower, the Russian military has failed for months to secure the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration—an outcome that underscores the resilience of Ukraine’s defenses and their ability to disrupt Russian plans. Chasiv Yar has stood for more than two years as a symbol of Ukrainian resistance. Despite relentless urban combat and widespread destruction, Ukrainian Defense Forces maintain control of the city. Ukrainian units are not only holding defensive positions but are also launching counterattacks, blocking Russian forces from establishing full control over Chasiv Yar.

Ukrainian forces strike drone manufacturing plant in Taganrog The Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a strike on an industrial facility in Taganrog overnight on Sunday, April 19. According to local authorities, three people were injured and "commercial infrastructure" sustained damage. A fire broke out in the warehouse area, Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar wrote on his Telegram channel . An OSINT analysis by the Telegram channel Astra indicated that the fire broke out at “Atlant Aero,” a company specializing in the development and production of UAVs. The plant reportedly manufactures attack and reconnaissance drones known as “Molniya” as well as components for the “Orion” drone, both of which have been employed by Russian forces in the war against The facility had previously come under attack in January and March of 2026. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed that Ukrainian forces struck the “Atlant Aero” plant overnight. "Disabling this facility will reduce the enemy's capability to produce drones and weaken the Russian aggressor’s ability to attack civilian targets in Ukraine," the General Staff said in a statement posted Sunday morning on its Telegram channel. Later, the General Staff clarified that the strike was carried out using “Neptune” missiles, resulting in a fire at the plant, which makes “Molniya” and “Orion” drones. According to a statement on Facebook , the “Orion” UAV weighs about a ton and is capable of carrying up to 250 kilograms of payload, including systems for aerial photography, electronic intelligence modules, electro-optical systems, as well as guided bombs and various types of missiles. "Disabling this facility will reduce the enemy's capability to produce drones and weaken the Russian aggressor’s ability to attack civilian targets in Ukraine," Ukrainian officials reiterated. That same night, Ukrainian forces also attacked the town of Yeysk in Russia’s Krasnodar region. According to the local emergency headquarters, debris from a UAV fell near the seaport, shattering windows in three private homes, but causing no injuries. Airports in Sochi and Gelendzhik were temporarily closed due to the strikes. Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that it shot down 13 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight across the Belgorod, Kursk, and Rostov regions, the Krasnodar region, annexed Crimea, as well as over the Sea of Azov.
