Raphael's conversation with Kubrick (below) continues with:
"'I know that can happen with directors, but you can trust me.' So they cross the stream, and the director dumps the writer and claims all the credit.'"

"The director's narrative style is to withhold more than he gives, playing on our sense of longing. What fans of this film have in common is that we happen to value longing more than knowing. We embrace the aesthetic of withholding."

"Laura's eye is among the first images in the film. In this scene in her van, the Nervous Man says to her, 'Something about your eyes..." He seems dazed by her. There is indeed something about her eyes, and the way her alien colleague searches them, and the way she gazes into mirrors"

Haven't seen half of these, but 1, 2, 4 & 5 are excellent and so is Marty Supreme, even tho Chalamet made a silly comment about opera

I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.

For cinephiles all over our beleaguered but beautiful world ๐Ÿ™ After watching "Under the Skin" at my local cinema for the first time I could not stop thinking about it. I returned several times, began making notes, and over the next five years wrote this book
