It's rabbits and a particular naughty little dog that are the problem lol, hence the chicken wire. Deer can't get into the yard due to our tall, robust fences (designed to contain aforementioned naughty little dog).

Really important article from @westernwatersheds.bsky.social
Logging is wrecking our National Parks under the guise of "fuels reduction" and other euphemisms for this heinous and destructive plundering.
Olympic NP is among those parks now being targeted for butchery.

Got my fountain running again for spring/summer.

Our new little herb/vegetable garden - basil, thyme, lavender, Stevie, plus peas, spinach, and onions!
The "Parents Decide Act" (HR8250) is about as dystopian as it gets, and it must be stopped.
As Louis Rossmann puts it, this should be called the "Somebody Else Gets To Decide Whether Or Not You Can Use A Computer Act".

It's amazing to see such enthusiasm for artists and physical media among young people in Longview in 2026.

Record Store Day was a lot of fun in Longview, WA! Some great deals at Stash Records and Square Dog Books. #RSD #RecordStoreDay
Really happy to have picked up some of my favorite albums at a discount.
The whole process is very calming - learning how different trees grow and react to various factors, watching the tree slowly change over months and years, developing an artistic vision of what the tree should look like and meticulously working to implement that vision.... I love it.
Next year I will begin the long slow process of gradually excavating the soil from the rock, exposing the roots of the tree (neagari).
I may then put it in a larger pot on top of an even larger rock, and repeat the process. In a decade or two, I hope to create an hoodoo helt together by roots!
Shaped another bonsai today, this is another Crabapple I've been growing in a pot for the past few years.
For this one, I actually planted it on top of a river rock, and then covered the rock with dirt so that the roots will grow over the rock.
Ridgefield is planning a massive, destructive development adjacent to Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.
They intend to pave over a huge section of shoreline along Carty Lake and Lake River.

The indirect violence of the wealthy ultimately results in innumerable deaths as a consequence of their greed; the price of healthcare, the pollution and degradation of our environment, their pursuit of foreign wars, etc. If the course of things doesn't change, they will surely kill us all one day.
Trump lied about about the Strait of Hormuz specifically to manipulate the stock market, and to manipulate "prediction" markets.
He's basically treating markets like a casino where he controls the outcome of every game.
FYI the moss I use for landscaping is just what has fallen out of the trees around the yard. Packing it in with rocks helps to hold the soil in and enable me to mound the tree up above the lip of the training pot.
It was horrifyingly root-bound when I got it out of the pot. I ended up removing most of this mess!
