Renewable yes, carbon neutral no, because thermodynamics teaches us we can never break even.

Because it is a renewable resource (within human lifetime scale), it's better than burning fossil fuels so can help in situations where carbon neutral renewables are too expensive.

Yes, people, I agree. But my point is that Reagan created measures that his successors keep using. If it's so bad, they should *stop doing that,* but they don't

Virginia's Unconstitutional Effort to Strip Tax Exemptions From Pro-Confederate Groups The groups and their ideology are awful. But Virginia's policy violates the First Amendment.

I hate the Confederacy and all it stood for, and have no sympathy for its modern apologists. But Virginia's new law stripping tax exemptions from pro-Confederate groups violates First Amendment, and could set a dangerous precedent. See my linked post for details: reason.com/volokh/2026/...

Robert Reich saying "I liked RFK back when he sounded more like me" should prompt more self-reflection than it probably will.

True. His type of kookery used to be more left-coded and now it’s right-coded. But the substance is the same.

I know who they are and the important work they do but, I always think its International instead of Intergovernmental.

Reminds me of when the PCMCIA interface card standard came out and the joke was it stood for "People Can't Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms"

She's got a financial interest in multiple aspects of for-profit healthcare. That's likely the main reason Trump wants her, she may help move more money from taxpayers to health care executives and shareholders.

Trump’s huge military budget would be the largest in American history—more than WWII.

The Trump budget is war first, American people last.

It explodes military funding and brings departments like Labor, Education, and Agriculture to historic lows.

As someone who was raised to know that it is every citizens patriotic duty to pay all their taxes, I strongly support IRS enforcement and wish more cheaters would get caught.

Between the dismantling of USAID and the war in Iran, plus the shredding of the social safety net, this administration is on track (easily) to be responsible for more deaths than any since the Vietnam War.

I was always surprised so many publishers allowed their content to be archived.
Since the beginning it's always been very easy to have the IA not archive stuff. I've done it on my sites for some stuff I don't want archived for the public.

ideally trump crashes and burns, and takes vance's political aspirations with him. I do not know if this will happen! the last ten years have dissuaded me from making predictions with any certainty. But this is the dream that sustains me.

First next generation episode with the Ferengi is weird.

What’s with the extreme close ups of the guy in front of the white void.

These initial episodes are dorky as hell. And the costumes are stupid. Especially Troi.

It’s amazing this show went past season one.

Sorry to say. Rough watch.

Saw my first one up here in southern New England on this weekends hike.

Haven't seen them at night yet, I think it's still too cold for them to light up at night up here

Americans unfortunately will relearn why vaccination is important the hard way, by killing a staggering number of children.

Warner Bros specifically has had THREE utterly disastrous mergers in the last two decades that ALWAYS result in layoffs, price hikes, shittier products, and everybody losing their shirt, but I want you to notice how the U.S. outlets covering this story don't think that's worth mentioning

MAHA and science-based public health: Can’t we all just get along? The answer is: Very likely not, at least not as long as MAHA embraces quackery and antivax pseudoscience—not that that didn't stop STAT News from ignoring the elephant in the room, vaccines, in sear

It's unlikely that MAHA and public health can ever "get along," at least not as long as MAHA embraces quackery and antivax pseudoscience. Unfortunately, that didn’t stop @statnews.com from searching for a “kumbaya” moment between MAHA and public health. sciencebasedmedicine.org/maha-and-sci...
