Once you’ve made these connections, think about the card interpretations and how these relate to your insight. Do they validate you, or give you a new angle to consider? Once you’ve got the hang of this, you can use it with any number of cards! Soon, you’ll be able to see a spread and see the story!
With suits, your new knowledge of suit meanings also helps! Is the card a sword, showing that they make decisions based on rationality and facts? Or are they a cup, following their heart wherever it leads?
The order of your cards is also important! Is the character facing the second card, or turning their back to it? Are they reaching out for it, or pushing it away? Are the cards going from darkness to light, or the other way round?
No one interpretation is correct, and it's good to practice to build up your skills and draw more from your cards! Your interpretation can also reflect on the questions asked, how you relate it to your circumstances, and what wisdom you seek to gain!
From these, try to find your own interpretation! One of the cards shows a wealthy man, while the other shows a worker; potentially a change in your financial situation? Both show a figure or object above clouds; perhaps you will find clarity on something?
Try not to think too hard about the interpretations just yet! Just jot the first things you notice, as you notice them! Are the characters holding something? Do they both have animals? Are they facing opposite directions? Their fashion, their age, anything that you immediately notice!
Starting with 2 cards pulled at random, place them side by side, and see what connects them! Colours, objects, card numbers, court cards, which arcana or suit they belong to, even how they clash! Jot these down!
To figure it out ourselves, we are going to try bridging! With experience, this is a valuable tool that will help you see how 2, 3, 4, however many cards your spread are connected, the importance of the order they’re pulled, and the overarching story!
It might be easy to take the cards at face value, but this can be confusing if the cards have opposite meanings! It's important to try to learn the card individually, and try to see the whole story! It simply isn’t possible for a guidebook to show every single combination, as nice as that sounds!
Your cards are drawn; you know the meanings…but what do they all mean together? Well, let's figure out how the cards of your spread connect!

Be patient! Everyone starts somewhere, and everyone learns at a different pace! If you’re dedicated, resourceful and, most of all, excited to learn, with time you’ll be practising tarot like the pros! What are your best ways to learn?
Practising frequently is the best way to lock in that understanding! Whether it's for yourself or others, the more you use your deck, the easier you’ll find it to draw meanings! Soon, what looks like a simple spread of cards to another, paints an entire story for you!
Need to keep track of your learning? Journaling is an amazing way to revisit your spreads and understand them better! Writing is an amazing memorisation tool, and you’ll be able to see your learning in action each day!
Engage with others! Everyone starts somewhere, and there are so many people also on their tarot journey! Chat to friends, join in on forum discussions, and even leave video comments to find insightful input! You may even make a friend ready to learn with you!
Read! You'll find a treasure trove of books covering tarot at local bookshops, online, and even in thrift stores! Highlighting and marking the important parts ensures you can check back when you're practising your spreads!
Be resourceful! Many creators dedicate their videos and posts to breaking down and explaining the cards in ways easy to understand, from beginners to pros! Throw on a video as you learn and follow their steps! Many video sites and even dedicated websites will have amazing resources to help you!
Want to understand your cards thoroughly? A quick “card of the day” pull can help focus on them one at a time, letting you study it, understand it and memorise! Then, when you see it again in your larger spreads, you’ll remember how it related to that day!
