My thoughts and more details, including a quick list of the extensions ID’d by CyberAlberta as threats, are here — along with links to the original source information from CyberAlberta and 404Media: medium.com/tired-of-tec...
I also discuss what I’ll be doing now instead of using Zoom.
Posts by Emily is Tired of Tech
@404media.co and Cyber Alberta have both reported that some common AI-enabled meeting tools are more or less serving as a gateway to people/bots that screen record private meetings on the sly and feed the information to a site called WebinarTV. That platform then turns private calls into AI podcasts
Control your own doomscroll by bringing back RSS — after all, it never really went away. Big Tech just can't make money off of it in the same way they can The Algorithm: medium.com/tired-of-tec...
Starting a new posting-for-100-days challenge, kicking things off with a blog about a little local win for the people vs. Big Tech:

VERY intrigued by this book concept!
A black and white flow chart shows the path content will take between multiple websites using federated RSS and manual cross-posting.
Setting up my POSSE (publish on your own site, syndicate everywhere) plan own all my biz, personal, and Tiredof.tech content on @ghost.org and @micro.blog sites with syncing to other places like LinkedIn, Medium, and Bsky. Big Tech won’t own it! (plan drafted on my @supernote.com Nomad of course)
I just published Global Day of Unplugging is Happening; This is My Adaptation medium.com/tired-of-tec...
2. Set two points of time at which I’ll check my phone for calls/messages as some people may need to reach me for Reasons: lunchtime and dinner time. No scrolling! Just a check.
That’s it! The official Day “rules” are pretty flexible anyway, but ultimately a little unplug is better than none 🔌
The international day of unplugging starts tonight and runs through tomorrow! Here’s how I’m going to do it:
1. Keep my electronics use limited to three devices I control the flow of information on: a Snowsky music player, my @barnesandnoble.com Nook, and my @supernote.com Nomad.

As a human being you have the right to be able to understand the world. That is why education is so important.
Any technology that hinders your understanding (even if it seemingly gives you capabilities) is deeply in- and anti-humane.
A Day In The Life of an Enshittifier — this is a Norwegian Consumer Council ad, but it’s also hilarious (and true) yewtu.be/watch?v=T4Up...
It’s Resist and unsubscribe month as coined by @profgalloway.com — his site has a list of ICE-enabling businesses to quit; tiredof.tech has instructions on how to easily take your biz elsewhere!
This is not news for many on this platform, but great to see more mainstream coverage.
Keep it up!

Starbucks Workers United baristas are escalating their fight for a fair contract.
I urge you to keep boycotting Starbucks — and delete its app from your phone.
Workers are fed up with low pay, chaotic scheduling, understaffing, and illegal union busting.
Let's keep fighting corporate greed.
NGL, I would be a little embarrassed as a 42 y/o to have my Big Business Plans stalled until my pops could give it the OK.
Anyway, this holiday I’ll be doing normal people things like watching library DVDs in my $20 player from Mercari! 10/10 recommend (that … not the biz buyout with dad thing)
@eff.org out here making it easier to understand the complicated hoops that Big Tech is asking us to all jump through!
If you have an iPhone or iPad, the Unwatched app is one of the best I’ve ever used — you can “subscribe” to any YouTube channel without logging in to a Google account, queue your videos to watch, and there are NO ADS. Super easy to try if you’re feeling tired of YT! apps.apple.com/us/app/unwat...

Bit late to the party but I’m enjoying seeing others’ creations so here’s mine - a little web tool to help people disengage a little more from their least favorite algorithm: tiredof.tech
My plans for Black Friday: swim at the YMCA, eat some leftover pie, get cozy on the couch and read. If I buy anything it might be an upgrade to my @proton.me account so I can further disentangle from Google!
Nostalgia for 2022, anyone? While it would be cool if there were a way to remove the ‘AI slop’ from the current internet, going a few years back in time ain’t a bad idea either of you’re tired of the AI side of tech today.
If you’ve been thinking about canceling Spotify, now’s a good time to do it before the price goes up 🫠 It’s easy to switch to another service - links to instructions at tiredof.tech/#spotify-medium
Accuradio is nice, if you’re okay with a radio / shuffle type experience based around an artist or genre vs playlists you build. Plus it’s human curated! I’ve found some cool artists thru them!
Heck yeah! I haven’t shopped on Amazon all year and I don’t miss it. I live in a big metro area so I know it’s easier for me to find local biz than some folks, but even when it comes to hardware stores (I don’t have a small local one) — I’ll drive further to Lowes!
A brown and cream square shows three buttons with options for making a little change on Amazon: Turn off subscribe & save, spend less on ebooks, and use Chirp for audiobooks
Want to stop shopping on Amazon less this holiday season? It feels hard, I know! Taking a baby step is a good way to start - try turning off auto-ship, spending less on kindle with Bookbub, or getting audiobooks on Chirp! (Not an ad 😊)
The vicious cycle of monopolization:
1) Corporations argue that their growth is just part of the free market.
2) Use their monopoly power to gouge consumers.
3) Take a portion of their profits to make political donations.
4) Lobby against antitrust enforcement.
5) Repeat.
Keeping your perfectly fine, older device isn't "device hoarding" — it's expecting Big Tech to make products that aren't full of planned obsolescence, protecting your wallet, and caring for the environment.

Today's goal: do something a little better than yesterday, but don't worry about being perfect.
Big tech corporations are taking our money and attention. It's exhausting. If you feel tired, but don't know how to start breaking away, it's OK. Get simple steps to start at tiredof.tech
