There are many valid reasons from not knowing what to say to being outnumbered, so I don't judge others. Shame is partly why I push back. Someone once used a racial slur in my workplace & I'm ashamed to admit I was too shocked to say anything. That stayed with me. I try not to let it happen again.

It depends on what they're saying but one: "That's a weird thing to say out loud when you know other people can hear you."

When I hear these types of comments, I use my privilege to shame them. I used to get embarrassed at my late mom commenting indirectly at what strangers said; now I understand why she did it. I won't let it slide. This kind of ignorance is unacceptable.
