One of the most disappointing examples of #GenAI I've come across so far has to be the #Apple #Genmoji feature. It refuses to or fails at making MOST prompts. I've maybe gotten 3 emojis out of it with 30+ prompts and those 3 emoji are... not great or what I asked for

Ever since the use of "AI" has ramped up in the corp world I've seen a dramatic uptick in garbage marketing emails flooding my work inbox. Double-edged sword scenario: marketers are flooding the market with more emails faster, but I archive even more than before without bothering to read any 🤷♂️
Newest #opensource project I'm exploring: @organicmaps.bsky.social, an alt to #applemaps & #googlemaps. So far so good for a public project. Itchin to get Linux back on a device & have completely open source/decentralized laptop but unfortunately ran into some proprietary hardware limits on old MBP
Tried #Lemmy for 6 mo as reddit alt & after trying to like it I deleted my login. Reminded of early reddit w/small communities, but average #fediverse user way more pompous than needed. Lemmy users make me wonder how successful fediverse can get. Still exploring #opensource & #decentralized alts tho

For now, I'll wade thru dark waters while I discover a next place of growth. I imagine it will involve newer hobbies I've come to enjoy/grow interested in: writing, hiking & woodworking. Craft projects *may* be seen on socials, but keep an eye on my movie blog. Feels like a good time to revive it.
The point I'm heading toward: Maybe it's time to step back from my mostly lifelong web activities. Leave it behind and find something new to grow into. The playground of fun & knowledge I grew up on, the world wide web, feels like Weekend at Bernie's; Lifeless, manipulated, fake and even dangerous.
Not sure how I feel about my presence on the web, in general. Feels less like a playground and more like a weapon being used to target us, whether by disinformation from hate groups/regimes or companies boosting profits via discord. Meta, reddit, even here... Feels like unnecessary noise in life rn
In an odd state right now. Spent much of my life -ever since getting internet- exploring, learning & creating fun on the web. As "online" shrunk to social networks & rampant capitalism infested all areas the fun has been crammed into a dark corner. Online feels stagnant, repetitive & upsetting now.
Everything is so depressing, I spent the weekend reading dystopian fantasy to escape.
Oh hey - there are people on here now that I have physically met in real life.
So as a society, are we ever going to talk about how Pokémon teaches eugenics but in a dog fighting setting?
