Ward "Dave" McMakin passed away from service-related brain cancer. He was very proud to be a firefighter/EMS responder. Dave was a dedicated father, brother and friend. He is missed by all.

Deputy Chief Bill Mack passed away on his 59th birthday, surrounded by his loving family after a two-year battle with occupational cancer. Chief Mack dedicated more than 30 years to the fire service working with Valley Regional Fire Authority and East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Colleen Bass was working as a security officer at Eastern State Hospital when she was shot and killed by an active shooter. She loved her family and was a great mother to her daughter and son. If anyone needed help, she was the first to offer.
