If it was a real computer where user intent mattered I could just downgrade to a version of Procreate that actually works. But alas, fucked by Tim Apple yet again

I take my iPad out of Airplane Mode for ONE DAY and this is what happens hahahahaha
I spoke too soon. Procreate is now crashing repeatedly when editing specific documents and when trying to export them. It freezes, and then freezes on subsequent launches, until I restart my iPad. And like, hey, my device is 7 years old. But Procreate was 100% fine before it updated. -_-

Restarting my tablet seems to have fixed... Whatever it was. Thank God. Sheesh.
...Oh come ON. So I pick the brush and the app freezes. So I close it and reopen it. Gray screen for 2-3 minutes, then crashes to the home screen. I've tried several times to reopen the app. Gonna try restarting my iPad, next.
Ok I figured out how to swap brush libraries and go back to the old ones. WHEW
Did it have to happen IN THE MIDDLE OF my three day illustration sprint for this freaking game? Really? Rrrrrrrrgh
Procreate just updated and my favorite brush is gone??? It was called "Gloaming" and it felt like a big ass marker :') WTF. Now I have to figure out how to get it back because _every illustration for LINOVICTUS so far uses it_ and I need em all to match.
a digital illustration of a vaguely floppy disk shaped device, with beveled corners, some contacts on one corner, a plastic slider for the thumb on the top, 3 large screws, and a cylinder on an axle in the middle, with squiggles on it.
tried to come up with a fun data disk design. the idea is you'd plug in the corner to read it, and the thumb slider on top is to pop the cylinder out / lock it in place.
three illustrations in a staggered arrangement. one shows a space station looking thing with a big hole blown in it. the next shows 3 pointy, triangular spaceships with segmented tubes on the back. the third shows a robot head and torso with two eyes arranged vertically, an exposed cranium, and segmented plate armor.
moar illustrations progress 🥱
a drawing of a crosshair framing three identical spaceships. each one is long, narrow, and pointed on the front, with some segmented tubes at the back.
the actual drawings without in-game filtering look more like this lol
two drawings inside glowing squares in a CRT-esque style with scanlines, chromatic aberration, and glow applied. each picture is square, with one overlapping the bottom right corner of the other. the back one depicts some kind of machine with a big hole blown in it. the front one shows three identical, pointy alien ships, with some segmented tubes and stuff at the back of each.
I'm working on some illustrations tonight! Having fun with it too ^_^
(And of course, your indie projects will often make negative dollars, and you and your friends will scrounge for cheap burritos regardless, because most of any money you ever make on jobs will go to housing costs unless you move to the country and work remotely on crappy internet)
Being in tech is weird because you might apply to one job that's hourly, part-time, and $20/hour the same day you apply to another job that's full time at a startup for like $200K with benefits. Our economy is fake and silly!

All the info you need should be on here.
I found out about retro achievements trying to set up emulators on my Steam Deck and I decided to try it, thinking it would add a layer of obscure challenges over the games. Nope - Achievement for getting the shield in Link’s Awakening, then one for the sword, then-
I worry that the Achievements I personally like are the ones that would deal psych damage to the other type of player though, and as a dev it's like... Where's the line of responsibility here? Can I do something in my game design to create a healthier psychological relationship to this thing?
I like Achievements when they give some kind of extra novelty goal, like in factory games and stuff? "Get 10 bazillion wheat in under one minute" is fun because it's optional and silly, and feels closer to doing a challenge run of a game with a friend than doing distasteful homework.
As a player I don't really care about Achievements in most games, but I have friends who feel compelled to try to collect them all. Their experience of "the cake" is now "90% icing-focused", I guess. Because as an industry we've increasingly put nicotine in the icing and sucralose in the cake.
I put a big pile of achievements in my upcoming titles because people demand them, but my personal feelings about them are largely in line with yours. :\ An achievement *could* serve as a reminder of a cool memory (which is the actual reward) - but that's often not the case.
It feels increasingly like psychological hooks to drag people further into the mentality of having Good Metrics.
Societies built around standardized tests and numerical rankings. People increasingly unable to just say 'I think I did good! Go me!' and instead compelled to tick off self-grading boxes
I really hope it’s something manageable or miraculously resolves itself because my wife is already expecting to lose a parent this year. It wouldn’t be fair to her if something happened to me too.
So the plan is to apply for whatever insurance I can in the midst of all the other stuff on my plate, try to get a policy as fast as possible, then make an appointment with the pcp I saw *once* two years ago after over a decade of no checkups.
I’ve been raw dogging diy without labs for over a year and managing life ok. Now I happen to finally be properly broke at the exact moment something goes noticeably wrong with my health and could become expensive fast :)
I haven’t had health insurance in over a year. I only had it before because of my job at the time covering it. For most of that time, I didn’t qualify for Medicaid or something because I made slightly too much freelancing.
After working really hard during LÖVE Jam and then also losing my cat and other stuff going on, I’ve suddenly had edema in my legs for about a week and it won’t go away. I’m a bit scared.
youtubers should starting adding "(NOT A PLOT SUMMARY)" to their video titles if they want some real clicks
It has become much tougher lately to stave off despondent feelings. I am trying not to allow this to paralyze me.
