I saw it effectively for the first time a few years ago. (I’d been taken to it when I was 4 but had to be carried out screaming when the monkeys appeared.) It seemed to me, a film professional in her 60s, a perfect film.

This is an actual post. This is not funny. This is beyond desperate. This is a deeply unwell man who doesn’t belong anywhere near the levers of power. Every member of his cabinet and Congress is complicit in not demanding his removal now.

It’s like nothing else in Los Angeles. You’ll love it.

Predicting that this week we’ll hear more conciliatory words from the Administration regarding Minnesota (since they’re starting to realize that ICE has become politically toxic) but everyone outside of Minnesota needs to know that nothing on the ground has changed.

I love the 1955 Guys and Dolls we do have with Brando and Sinatra but I wish we also had a version with Sam Levene reprising his Broadway Nathan and Gene Kelly as Sky Masterson.

The US government is summarily executing people on a weekly basis without telling the American people any of their names or presenting any proof of their guilt, for alleged crimes that do not carry the death penalty in the US.

Read the whole story. The death of Sarah Beckstrom is even more heartbreaking—and even more the fault of irresponsible actions of Trump administration than we even dreamed. 💔

Home Depot could implement a policy requiring ICE to present a judicial warrant before operating on its property. Businesses are fully within their rights to decide who is allowed on their premises.

Sally was everything everyone said about her—fierce, driven to take the center of the spotlight but also exceptionally generous and kind to me. Farewell and thank you, Sally!

I need to write up my Sally Kirkland stories. In 1980 I understudied Olivia in a Hollywood black box production. Sally produced and starred as Viola. Halfway through, the Olivia got a TV job and I got to go on for the rest of the run.

“Flawed people trying to do their best.” Kinda describes most of us. I guess that’s why all her work was so fully grounded in humanity. Thank you and farewell, too soon🌹

Love your posts. Today especially glad to get the heads-up that I needn’t violently scroll down and up, down and up for the footnotes—as I heretofore had indeed been doing 🤓🤪

Back from vacation. Endless vistas. Skies full of stars. Like Stephen Colbert, I have never loved my country more desperately.

Below are the 30 U.S. cities with at least 100,000 residents that had the highest number of crimes against people, per 100,000, according to the latest FBI data report.

Goodness, Washington, D.C., forgot to be included!

JD Vance & Jim Jordon's Ohio makes a stellar showing. Heck of a job on crime!

This is a wonderful book! Both for the author’s insights into artists I already admired but also for the research it prompted me to do into the artists I was less familiar with.

Lovely post, thank you. I must reread it. You’re so lucky, reading it for the first time. And luckier still… when you’ve finished Middlemarch, Daniel Deronda awaits…

An accomplished director said to me, “What I love about your new book is that it reminds me to ask more questions. I’ve gotten into the bad habit of not taking the time to look into the world beyond what is on the page.” *Directing Actors 25th Anniversary Edition*

Why is Trump asking for grand jury testimony?

1. Because he knows it’s unlikely to be released and then he can blame the judge

2. Because that testimony is restricted to charges against Epstein and Maxwell and is unlikely to name clients

3. Because it generates delay and confusion.

I grieve the Texas flood losses. I wish the rest of the country would learn from California instead of kidnapping our hard-working, law-abiding neighbors, and making stupid, performative attempts to break our will with laughable shows of force. #macarthurpark

Los Angeles is a diverse community, roughly 50% white. We live together in harmony. We survived the January fires stronger than ever in spirit. Many more lives would have been lost if it weren’t for our excellent early-warning system and a population that pays attention to evacuation orders.

Budzinski: Families making over $700,000 a year will see a boost of $12,000 almost entirely from tax cuts. Shockingly, households making $23,000 a year or less are set to lose about $1600 a year, mostly due to deep cuts to Medicaid and food assistance
