For-profit companies absolutely should not ever ask employees to volunteer their time.
π Outreach and engagement is work π
It has so many benefits, especially to the company. Put your money where your mouth is.
N.B. this is after a conversation with a friend and not in any relation to my work.
Joke's on them, adverts are long enough to make a cuppa and take a pee break again.

"Aggressive adoption of renewables and advanced technologies could cut emissions by 50 to 80 percent, avoiding 85 to 165 million metric tons of CO2."
"Mitigation strategies include advanced cooling, renewable energy procurement, cleaner backup power (fuel cells, batteries), sustainable construction, and standardized reporting..."
Fascinating assessment!

How did we get here?
(rhetorical - I know exactly how.)
I am so deeply angry.
Politicians don't have the power. Clearly.
We as individuals together do.
Speak with your actions and purchasing power.
Speak with your words and letters.
Speak as individuals, together.
We all need to get off our asses and act.
There is no magical technology coming to save us in time.
We need to change the way we live and we need to do it today.

Delays to funding are translating into widespread attrition of early-career researchers across PPAN science. This is not hypothetical, this is happening now.
Missing the international deadline has resulted in an effective 100% cut to new theoretical physics postdoc positions in the UK this cycle.
PPAN-trained scientists drive innovation across the UK industry.
Cutting this pipeline is short-sighted.
If youβve moved from PPAN into industry in the UK, add your voice π

A message that turned into a terrible poem:
I had power for an hour,
enough time for a shower,
then a loud crash
and now(er)
no power
no mow(er)

Though I didn't lose power in the #QCstorm last week, the ice aftermath on my steps was a good 2cm of smooth, slippery death. It took a god hour to chip away at the full staircase.

My NY res was to de-screen my life a bit. I realise now that I've replaced scrolling insta with reddit which, while interesting and hobby-based, still sucks up my time. Now deleted the app off my phone to make reddit use more active than passive.
So, naturally I came to BlueSky to post about it.
It's been 10 days and I still can't think of a good enough starter word to stick with

Heya friends -- I'm looking for a postdoc! This time we're looking at the ethics of technology deployment for climate change mitigation. Full description in the link!
Quick details: CVs and cover letters to me by 1 April; $75k/year for up to 21 months; remote within the US is ok.
I definitely missed the first then!
I hope so! I saw a power outage map on reddit from April '23 and it made me go and prepare a little
