Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.

We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

Sorry to be overly sincere for a second, but here's why we decided to persevere through all of the bullshit and take over InfoWars.

There's just gotta be a line somewhere.

Thank you @pablo.show for letting me talk so openly about this.

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"

Not once in the 80s, 90s or 00s do I recall a politician urging the public to embrace email, mobile phones, texting, two factor authentication, online banking, air fryers, or to replace all their cassette collection with a CD collection.

So forgive me if I smell a rat.

If you’re a Hachette author you should be talking to your editors and teams about this. If they’re using AI to counter AI, it’s still AI. And it may also be giving your work to the machine, serving it up on a contractual platter.

this really is a significant blow to the global far right. Hungary under Orban was more than a financier and place to host events: it was a proof of concept

This thread. I have been doing this kind of work for a very long time and I know a lot about exactly this. If you want to do misconduct reporting with scared sources going up against very powerful people, and also keep your soul, it takes time. So much time. It’s very difficult. Brain meltingly so.

Hope is the word of the day. Here's hoping Magyar has figured out that authoritarians require shaming & blaming some "other" to divide & conquer & that the public outcry after Orban criminalized Pride helped power today's victory.

Orban was a cornerstone of the international anti-trans movements. Hungarian trans people were among the early targets of his authoritarian regime.

It'll take a long time to come back from it all but I hope Hungarian trans people sleep slightly better tonight.

I can’t believe it 😭

It's not just that Orbán losing inspires hope in other competitive-autocratic countries ruled by right-wing nationalist authoritarians. It's that his loss materially changes things in those other countries, because he's been operating as a headquarters and funding source...

holy shit he actually conceded

folks, they tell you they’re invincible

they tell you they’re inevitable

they tell you that you should give up and stop fighting

and absolutely none of that is true

👇🎯 The election victory is just the start. Unwinding competitive authoritarianism takes time & institutional reform. Everyone needs to know that is going to be true in America as well. The election victory will just be the start.

Hi all,

I'm going to need some help with the next month. I've been getting more work, but it's not enough to keep up with all the costs we have right now. In addition, I'm dealing with serious depression that's making daily life extremely difficult.

The biggest cost I have to cover is about $1400 in back taxes. But we also need to have our car battery replaced, which is likely to be about $130.

I also need to buy new glasses, which should be just over $150.

It's possible I'll need some help covering April's rent, and I can update the crowdfund again if that looks necessary.

My partner and I appreciate all your help. It means the world to both of us that you've been there through so many of our hardships. Thank you and bless you all.

Hi all,

I've been struggling pretty badly lately and need help covering some costs right now, especially my back taxes. We also might need some work on our car, and I need to buy new glasses.

Thank you all so much for shares and donations! It means so much to us.

Contrary to public perception a huge % of pregnant teenagers in the 1990s were impregnated by adult men. The younger they were, the larger the average age gap between mother and father was. Fixing teen pregnancy was in part a clampdown on statutory rape. That's what conservatives want to reverse.

Make ‘em dumb, sell ‘em smarts Sam Altman wants intelligence to be a utility that you pay him for

Sam Altman has a new plan to make money from generative AI: he wants intelligence to be treated like water or electricity — and we’ll all have to pay him for it.

His chatbots are degrading people’s ability to retain information and think critically. Now he wants to sell smarts back to us.
