The next cosplay I'm excited about? A black sweatsuit and a LITERAL PAPER BAG over my head. NO, I am NOT sympathetic to the idea that taking it easy is "cheapening the hobby". That kind of nonsense ultimately ends up making 14-year-olds with no budget feel bad, and stops adults from trying it out.

I've cosplayed for years, I've E-6000ed the acrylic nails to the gloves, I've built the coffin-shaped cello case from scratch using cardboard, it feels like I've trimmed every single one of my friend's wigs twice and I draw facial hair on volunteers with makeup as a parlor trick. I've done things.

if the complaint is "it's too easy" then ew, gatekeeping. every hobby has an easy way and a hard way and you are not better because you decided to make it difficult for yourself.
You should be proud of what you've done and let other people enjoy things. They are existing, not "ruining it" for you.
