my intent with sharing info is never to incite panic, it’s to help people evaluate their risk profiles and strategize accordingly. i teach opsec workshops + consults (always pro bono) focused on this.

my intent with sharing that information was to give SWs a heads up that there was potential for things to shift on this platform, and to help them de-risk.

these were the mitigation strategies i posted in my next slide, followed by an info request.

(also sent you a follow up DM because i haven’t really been following the narrative on this, but to be extra clear, the screenshot in this thread is what i shared to IG; i don’t have a tiktok & never shared screenshots of the emails i reviewed)

it’s critically important to me that 1) the info i share is shared with the appropriate confidence level, and 2) that when i share info, i also share appropriate risk mitigation strategies. i believe strongly in responsible disclosure, especially wrt uncertain or tentative info.

that being said, i do stand by what i posted earlier this week. given the info i had at the time (& verified), it was absolutely reasonable to warn people that a **potential** TOS change had been leaked in deletion emails.

i don’t phrase it this way for plausible deniability, i do so for accuracy.

i don’t post to socials for clout, i do it because i give a major fuck about community. i rarely share info publicly.

i do also frequently have inside knowledge about the inner workings of major companies (not bsky, but comps), because i have former colleagues who are happy to share info with me.

i’m not a content creator, but i do have an extensive background in the tech industry (over a decade, senior roles, major corporations). in general, i’m careful to commentate on things that are within my scope of expertise.

first off: i’m a recently retired SW of 6 yrs & still use my IG to disseminate safety info. i usually post SW-only info to my CF stories, which has >300 vetted SWs on it.

(& for those wondering: Mozilla VPN was the culprit - it’s ironically the one that i use when i want to *not* trigger spam flags in basically every other app/site)

made the amateur mistake of trying to reinstall signal while using a VPN that signal thinks is spam & got slapped with a 5-day lockout, so if you’ve messaged me on there this week I haven’t received it!

DNS changes can take a while to show up, even up to a couple days. sometimes you un-fuck your settings but your laptop will still see a broken site, yet your phone will load it just fine. this is normal, don’t panic

*do not* edit or delete anything else in your DNS settings, even if you see random shit in there that you don’t recognize or understand.

if you add a bluesky entry and your site goes down, ONLY delete the bluesky part that you just added, then *don’t touch anything else for 24h*

READ BEFORE YOU SET YOUR SITE AS YOUR HANDLE ✌️

if you try to change your DNS settings and you mess it up, it can take down your site + email too

be careful & precise when adding the bsky record: make a copy of your current settings beforehand, exclude any trailing spaces, triple check for typos
