After Tracheal Stenosis Robbed Him of His Ability to Breathe, Ned Steffens Underwent Complex Airway Surgery Combining Expertise of the CU Department of Surgery and CU Department of Otolaryngology Tracheal stenosis — a narrowing caused by scar tissue created by the breathing tube — was slowly robbing Ned Steffens of his ability to breathe.

After surviving 35 days in the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ned Steffens thought the worst was behind him. But challenges awaited him.
Doctors Robert Meguid, MD, MPH, and Matthew Clary, MD, diagnosed him with tracheal stenosis caused by scar tissue from a breathing tube.
