The world they inhabit, for sure. This novel, though, was an extension/precursor of a rather tight short story. It probably just needed to stay there.

Thanks. My gut tells me that it's the former rather than the latter, but walking away from something with that many months of writing is a hard pill to swallow.
How do you know if a book has the right legs? I’ve recently put a book into "cold storage” and switched to a book that flows more. I love the characters and plot in both stories, but one is much more laborious to write. I can’t tell if that’s because it’s got issues or it’s just a harder subject.
Definitely Weaponised Archaeologists. I need to know if they have been given tools of destruction or if they are themselves the tools of destruction. Regardless, I need to know to what end.
Congrats

Went to my first school board meeting this evening for a district my family loves, and it was actually lovely and community driven. Kids presented projects, the business of running the district was presented and public commentaries were sane and caring. In such tumult, it was actually hopeful.
Listen to Aggressive Steven by Aesop Rock, reread Notes From Underground by Dostoevsky. Voila, my brain makes up a little allegory about how the current world works.

One a Day
This is what you get when you are rereading Notes from Underground and listening to Aesop Rock's Aggressive Steven. A short tale about someone named Steven who is taking...something...and how he descends.
It was a great episode and the very thorough breakdown of how it fits into this moment in society was extremely well done.
We’re big hockey fans here and the amount of betting ads makes us sour. Feels like a hijacking of something I’ve loved for over 40 years. No one needs to know the line, ever.
Yuntian Deng @yuntiandeng•7h For those curious about how 03-mini performs on multi-digit multiplication, here's the result. It does much better than 01 but still struggles past 13x13. (Same evaluation setup as before, but with 40 test examples per cell.)
these guys spent 60 kajillion dollars to make a computer forget how to do math
Nooooooooooo
My wife might not like it, but I think it's time to introduce them to this glittering masterpiece as well. Thanks for the idea. They've taken kindly to everything else I've introduced them to, so we shall see.
Aww, man. Amazing game. I like their Into the Breach game as well, but FTL will always be the gold standard.
A Magnum Opus if ever there was one.
I can't even get my family to watch anymore, since it's a 50/50 chance it'll be sad. Let alone buying tickets to a game.
A mood board featuring rural decay alongside technology-filled cities and industry. A robot hand reaches for a human hand at the center.

Six black and white, polaroid photos are arranged against a dark green background. Clockwise from top left, the images are as follows: A front view of a Vauxhall Viva car with the numberplate BR872. Text below it reads ‘Out of Time’. A head and shoulders shot of a man in profile, wearing a coat with the collar turned up and a trilby hat. Text below reads ‘Espionage’. The Big Ben clock tower in London. The silhouette of a man on his knees in a dark alley, with his hands behind his head. Text below it reads ‘Thriller’. A travel alarm clock. Time reads 3.40. I've been working on a prequel novel to this story I wrote years ago for the last couple of months. It's nice to sink back into a few of my favorite characters: robotissmiling.com/2016/04/29/t...
Wrote about the gig economy ride-hail model, its metastasis across the economy, and a brilliant Roosevelt Institute report on gig nursing that came out last month. thetechbubble.substack.com/p/ubers-bast...

Once the news came out about Deepseek, my first thought was that it will be a great next episode.
Holy geez. I had no idea and now I must find it.
Sign in Italian and English that says to beware of the pickpockets. A green blocky figure has a bag that a red blocky figure reaches into. The red figures reaching arm looks abnormally long.
