my first handbuilt piece is an adorable, cheeky potato incense holder. it literally has butt cheeks.
*hindsight is always 20/20. i should have made it so that the smoke came out his butt.
some progress pics. i was obsessed with the jade crackle glaze, but i think i'm now in love with the oatmeal glaze.
the #otaniworkshop exhibit at the #vancouverartgallery is amazing. if you haven't seen it yet, i highly recommend you check it out before it leaves our city in january. #vancouver #art #monstersinmyhead
that feeling when you spent 7 hours trimming gaiwan, only to drop the entire tray after ππ€¬
a coworker came by my office to wish me a happy asian heritage month. i told him asian heritage month was last month and he was like, oh no (genuinely disappointed). told him it was okay because i'll still be asian next year.
trimming day done. no meltdowns. ππ» i anticipate multiple meltdowns on glazing day though...
since taking pottery classes, iβve been gifting my coworkers the pieces that i made. my pieces might be a bit wonky, but my coworkers? 1000% supportive and not noticing the imperfections. making and gifting these imperfect little pieces is the best kind of happy β no perfection needed! πͺ΄
told a coworker that randall park is the asian ryan reynolds. he disagrees, but i stand by my claim.
everyone at the studio is making moon jars and porcelain teapots, and then there's me.

made and glazed a small bud vase at work and, while i really hate glazing, i loved how the glaze turned out (our school's art teacher makes pretty glazes).
i'm still figuring out what shapes i like, but i notice that i generally gravitate towards more rounder ones...usually by accident. π

tackled more clay and chonky jars. will trim off the clay boogers next week.
truly heartbreaking. but what an amazing and generous gesture from this young man who is going through so much pain and grief. his parents raised him well.
For anyone aware of the tragedy at Vancouver Lapu Lapu festival, here's a thread of GoFundMe's available to help support the many victims. (copy pasted from my friend 'J' in the Vancouver Filipino community)

Not our beloved Fraser Street... My heart is broken. I feel so sick reading the horrific details of what people experienced at this evening's attack. This is a violent violation of a special safe place shared by so many, on a day to celebrate Lapu Lapu. Take care of each other.
