Okay, managed to install ARC drivers, which was more of a hassle than I thought it would be, but it's reasonable because it does feel experimental and early
Still, went from 2 to 166+ frames in Slay the Spire 2. Progress!

This is veeery exciting!!!
I just found that I had been running this on Balanced power mode.... I could take the blame... or just blame Opensuse for that setting...
THIS THING HAS A TOUCH SCREEN? WHY? WHAT?!
PicoCad 2 is so much fun! Such a relaxing and creative piece of software, I'll definitely make some more of these!

tbh I should have done this way sooner for jams, team projects, etc. But to my credit, this laptop's specs at this used price were not available even a year ago (Intel Core Ultra 155H), and it's got specs I'd be happy to use even as my main setup
Bought a used Thinkpad to use as a workstation!
Decided to go with OpenSUSE
worst set up of my life, dear lord, I got like 10 different things that I had to wrestle with.
After that though, hey! Everything's super neat on Linux!
I also saw a really funny tweet about how Toby hasn't learned any other languages because there's no Yoko Taro or big devs outside japan to make Toby interested in these languages, and I just have to laugh at the idea of Toby learning every language under the sun if this was true.
and so he can't personally guarantee that they will respect nuance in gender, comedy, themes, etc. so he just doesn't. And seeing many horror stories regarding translations (Silksong's chinese translation is a big one) does raise an eyebrow and justify Toby's view.
thanks to youtubers who covered the game, fan translations, or even a combination of both things that let people experience these works.
Now, even with all that, did these works respect the nuance in the original? I can't say, but it's not an unfounded thought. They didn't work with Toby, -
On a more serious note, I think it's a testament to the quality of the work and its expansive reach that a lot (and I do mean a LOT) of people I've met irl have experienced these games even without a translation, in a spanish speaking country. How they experienced it, I cannot say, but I think it's-
Regarding the recent UT/DR discourse, I think the main takeaway is that we need to be able to apply fan translations on consoles.
I swear I didn't know anything about the movie
Gosh this one was FUN to make, it's the first picocad model I've gotten to make with no 3d reference. Decided to texture it a little bit and I think it was to great effect!
Star Cannon from Terraria! #PicoCAD2
a slightly askew pair of models in blender: a cylinder, and a slimmer cube.
update:
made a cube.
managed to manipulate vertices much better with my new picocad knowledge. nice!
added a cylinder
tried to rotate it
both the cube and cylinder rotated
gave up
maybe after a tutorial or two I'll try again, clearly I'm not prepared lol
Screenshot of Blender on the Steam Library, updating
Maybe... Maybe I ought to give it another try... Surely it's just as fun as PicoCAD, right?
Now an Arwing in #PicoCAD2 !
THE ACCLAIMED EXPANSION
Actually getting the second ending to Silent Hill F this time (after like half a year lol)

And a jiggy! This one turned out much rougher - but I'm honestly happy with it!
Good thing I did this before doing something more ambitious, due to the limitations. Still, they push you to creative alternatives and solutions!
Made a quick little #PicoCAD2 recreation of LTTP's opening! :)
For real. Even if there's a T9, and it comes out "okay", I think it's really down to how little they listen to the community and consistently double down on weird, unfocused decisions that do not reflect the community sentiment whatsoever.
But I will still miss it!
I think it's time I uninstalled Tekken, and it hurts! I gave them a chance with more aggressive combat but it really isn't fun to learn: It's all about facerolling the enemy, and never about cleverly defending.
It was a good run, but unless they make it a different game I'm gone
Terraria
Ended up writing a thesis on why I like games in general, it's so long that I simply posted it on backloggd.com/u/alviedev/r...
I highly highly highly recommend this game. Even if the difficulty sounds daunting, the game presents a mode where you can manually save anywhere, easing the anxiety of its difficulty, but more importantly, making it easier to explore and appreciate the game’s choices and permutations.
But it would be hard to care if the choices were shallow or didn’t amount to much. That’s exactly where this game’s writing comes into play, constantly keeping you guessing at what’s behind the next door and, even more importantly, rewarding you with unforgettable scenes, not just stats or items.
Don’t worry, as having killed him brings its own quest later down the line, and so now your choices feel truly like your own adventure.
This reminds me of one of my favorite aspects in RPG’s, particularly in Disco Elysium, where doing the wrong thing isn’t a failure, it’s exploring a new branch!
That monster you killed early on in the game? Yeah, turns out, you could have recruited it if you paid close attention to the room next to him.
But how could you have paid attention? You were strapped for resources, and risked losing it all if you didn’t kill that monster immediately!
