And the thing about Carter was he was mostly just hurt by exogenous shocks. His actual term was quite good. Unusually strong job growth. Better job growth in his one term than some Republican presidents had in two. But people only remember oil and Iran.

Yeah, I didn’t know that about him. I thought he was this grizzled vet who could out-logic just about anyone on these sorts of issues.
I wish he wouldn’t have blocked me, because I like the guy. But I guess he can’t really defend what his military is doing, so easier just to block the pesky troublemakers.
I understand his anger, but what I don’t understand is this nothing-else-matters fidelity to something that has already collapsed. If they cared so much about that oath, they would refuse to do anything until Trump got proper authorization from Congress. Right now, their fidelity is performative.
I give up. I can’t spend what’s left of my life screaming into the void about our own leaders threatening to end civilizations, or limp military yes-men ready to oblige the worst impulses, or horrible voters choosing cruelty for entertainment.

Mark Hertling blocked me, I guess because he thought I was attacking him personally. I wasn’t. When I wrote we don’t give a fuck about the oath, we’re not supposed to. We’re civilians. That oath means nothing to us, especially when it directly conflicts with the security of our nation and citizenry.

This is good thing. We don’t want him retiring. We want him to refuse every inclination to pass the torch to a younger conservative. The risk of him expiring from natural causes goes up every year, and that could be while Democrats are in charge. That’s how you flip a court.
There needs to be an internal process within the military where doctors assess the Executive’s capacity independent of Congress or the cabinet. I don’t know if there is one, but if there isn’t, that is just fucking stupid.
