Even as a teen I was irked by Mawdryn Undead because I knew for a fact Sarah Jane Smith was from 1980 and therefore the Brig wasn’t retired in 1976. It irked me. It irked me a lot.

When I first encountered them 50 years ago or so my grandad had very firm views on eating what was put in front of you :)

I looked at them. I am pretty sure I couldn’t bring myself to eat them. But I feel much the same as the original poster about aspic and all things aspicy

It’s the lack of awareness that I find maddening.

Also, I believe I’ve saying this to anybody who cares to listen since I first read Project 2025.

I’ve been known to order a beer in Spanish then say ‘merci’ when it arrives.

I could read that but couldn’t reply :)

When I worked in Paris I could follow a conversation and generally order food and so forth but then flail when they assumed my French was better than it is.

My issue in other languages is I often default to French. Especially with Spanish.

I am reminded of an interview I saw with a UK interrogator who found posing as a Doctor was easiest and almost always got useful answers.

The problem is, probably for the first time in his life, he’s hitting people who don’t care and will take him at his word and react to what he says.

As might have been discussed during the election, this doesn’t work well.

Trump clearly doesn’t get it. He has to keep telling people how it is even if it’s sorta marketing speil. I don’t think he really believes half the things he says either but he believes that if he keeps saying stuff it moves the needle.

It is weird because if you hear any of the people who've done this for real, they all will say the problem with torture is you will always get the person to talk - the issue is what they will say will often be what you want to hear. Whether that is true or not is irreverent to person being tortured.

It’s the simple logic anybody who has sat in a bar long enough has heard. It’s the loud guy explaining to somebody how easy it is to fix something, usually by bullying them to show them who is in charge.

But as somebody else pointed out that often ends with them being punched out.

Oh that is the one with the weird Scify. Yeah. Nearly bailed in that. I thought that was a separate book.

Yeah. It’s weird.

Then you get into how the tax stuff works and your head explodes. :)

Well the insane situation with IRAs, 401Ks and so on here makes things super complicated too which means you almost always have to have help unless you’re very very engaged - which I do not have the time to be.

Ah ok. Missed that but to be honest savings accounts don’t really seem to be a thing here. I have a person I have to meet with with every increasing frequency to keep at this. Arguably I should have been more focused on this earlier :(

This weeks subplot with the Reverend Green and Dr Plumber is rather sweet.

To be honest I noticed by accident and it turned out to be useful for stuff. But I pay a lot more attention than I used to especially to money market account stuff. But it’s constant background noise.

Then again; it’s also a racing toward 60 thing.

Also carry a balance in a service like Wise. They’re paying 3.75% currently.

If you reinvest dividends the net result is somewhat the same. Obviously more risk. One thing I’ve learned living here is you really do have to pay a fuck load more attention to this crap and I wish I had sooner.

First one I really remember.

Another day of deep cleaning. Today the bedroom. Another few million dust mites have been steamed to death (sorry guys) and another entire dog worth of fur removed. Now on with a new hypoallergenic mattress cover and new pillows as per the good lady’s allergy doctor insistence.
