Children of Men but it’s about the youngest person on earth named Doris

“Make a cross on your abdomen, when in Rome do like a Roman, ave Maria GEEIT’SGOODTOSEEYA,” absolute bliss haha
I made this the week that Tom Lehrer died, but I also started covers of four other Tom songs, which I’ll have to finish someday: New Math, Smut, We Will All Go Together When We Go, and, of course, Poisoning Pigeons In The Park. He’s as big an influence on me as The Beatles.
For reasons I don’t quite understand, my cover of Tom Lehrer’s “The Masochism Tango” has been popping this week, this song has been streamed a few hundred times a day? I’m very pleased, this has been a favorite song since I’m a little kid. Give it a spin! youtu.be/uESq3yDLRM0?...

Rocking through the first Cherry Red Britpop box set (the second set comes out this week I think), this is a fantastic mix. Plenty of stuff I know, plenty I don’t, some it’s so nice to hear again, for example Electronic’s “Getting Away With It,” a somewhat undefeated single.
Because I don’t often watch them in order, I had forgotten that S10 is one of the only perfect series, there’s not even the threat of a dud there. I had also forgotten that Dinosaurs is maybe the peak script of the whole era!
I have not seen this one since it first came out on DVD, and I haven’t seen it in actual Pertwee order, as we’ve been doing, probably since I was a teenager. We’re both legitimately sad to be reaching the end! He’s just absolutely wonderful and fully his character from scene 1 to last, he’s elite!
Later tonight: Doctor Who And The Planet Of The Spiders!
The plan is to release my first three albums (which essentially no one has ever heard) and all their subsidiary EPs/singles over the summer, one a month. So in June we’ll be talking about A Harmless Buzzing, in July, Crashing The Creep Seed, and in August, The Quip Celebs. 2004-06 in the house. 🏠
This song also features the lyrical dialogue “let’s have some conversation, I didn’t know about your girlfriend’s new job in radio. Oh! Well, she’s the new program director at KillMePlease FM” which does make me laugh every single time.
Not to quote myself, but I’m remixing my whole Painkiller catalog, & just got to an unreleased song called “History Is Hell” which has the lyric “consumers have three credit scores, that’s why you can’t write novels anymore”; a strange lyric from the 26 year old me, but I stand by it.
Oh! And a total bonus, Joe Mande came out to open the show workshopping some new standup and it was EXCELLENT. Really kind of an amazing night, gave me the live improv bug again!
A couple of us went out to see Mr @paulscheer.com and the Dinosaur crew at Largo last night, it’s been too long since I saw live improv, and WAY too long since I saw it done by the elitest of the elite, cast last night was nuts! Riggle, Edi, Tim B, Danielle, Lisa, Carl, Phil A Jackson. Hysterical!
The Kinks (people are calling them the best rock group of all time), circa mid 60s, maybe 1965. Dave, Ray, Mick, Pete; wearing clothes that would still be hip currently, ditto their hair, against an Earwolf gold backdrop lol
Chaps.
We’re watching all the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmeses, which are bliss, my favorite thing about them is how Doyle was just inventing genres left and right. “This one’s a ghost mystery, here’s an espionage thriller, this one’s kinda romantic, in this one the horse is the murderer…”
This gent was an absolute force for good, for imagination, and for a cracking story. Very glad you were around, Terrance.
I’m back on @getplayedpod.bsky.social this week, buddies! And I brought a brand new opening theme with me! I had so much fun listening to the tale of their Japan trip, then they brought me in to talk about my new albums for a while at the end! Love this crew. GET IN THERE & LISTEN UP!! 🎮
Members of the band R.E.M., early 80s. V cute.
Lads.
Which is really all anyone on that side of the river ever wants acknowledged haha
Nodding, deciding not to say “but Saint Paul, though.”
Ray Winstone saying the song title.

I absolutely loved it! I only know about the show but never seen, so it was all new to me and it was so good.
Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie absolutely ruled. Hilarious. Life-affirming!
Grinklin, a black cat, flopped on her side with her haunches on my lap, I am holding the 4-disc compilation Gotta Get A Good Thing Goin’: Black Music In Britain In The Sixties. Which does slam.
This is what’s going on over here.
Cover of The Quip Celebs, difficult to describe abstract people who are essentially a girl and a boy, the boy is wearing a lilac mask with a green mustache, the girl has a single high heel shoe. There is a floating balloon heart between them, Band name handwritten in orange on the left onto the bottom, album title in a pink glowing box
Cover for the Born In The Wrong Universe single, an abstract business boy, his face is sort of two different purple gas masks or maybe he has an orange speaker for an ear and mouth, stripey blue suit arm and one leg, a green sneaker, red and black striped tie. Orange background.
Cover of Queen Of Mondays single, an abstract girl with no real head, just some colored shapes attached to a blue suit arm, she is wearing a stripey orange and purple collared shirt, she has some kind of wooden lamp and a fork for her arms. Purple background.
I’ve almost finished renovating my third record, The Quip Celebs, from 2006. Only the big finale song left, plus the handful of B-sides to finish for the two singles. This one is pretty sharp, I have to say, some of my early best & it’s sounding better than ever. These’ll be streaming by summer!
It’s nearly impossible to be completely sad when playing a tambourine, is I guess the long and short of it.
Actually, no, I tell a lie, I had one sensational day in 2015, just remembered. Also, 2019 was pretty decent. Broke, but decent.
