MPs and campaigners in a tug of war to demand the government deliver on their promise to bring rail into public ownership
🚨Time to take a side!
Will your MP stand up for passengers OR will they stand up for private profiteers in the railway?
Share this and ask your MP to demand the government deliver their promise to bring our railway into public ownership: vist.ly/4ysfj
3 out of 4 of us want a publicly owned railway
This Labour government promised to deliver it but they are BETRAYING us
The truth is they're delivering a total mishmash - part nationalisation, part privatisation
We need REAL PUBLIC OWNERSHIP

Jack Rankin, Conservative MP for Windsor, calls for special administration of Thames Water 👇
"Water privatisation has clearly been a failure...Profit cannot be privatised while risk is socialised"
💯 and in line with the 70% of CONSERVATIVE voters who want publicly owned water
🥳 .... and we're over halfway there!!! 🥳
Sign and share. Let's make sure that the public has a say on the future of our water

Chris Hinchliff MP standing in Parliament Square in front of a row of protesters, with The Queen Elizabeth Tower in the background. He is holding a placard which reads "Great British Railcard. Entitles ALL passengers to a third off full ticket prices."
🔥"The first thing every GB Rail passenger should notice is a cheaper ticket. Nationalisation doesn’t just mean a new logo on the front of the train. Public ownership has to put more money in people's pockets.”

"This is not a bill that is going to give us real nationalisation of the railways".

Today outside parliament calling for REAL PUBLIC OWNERSHIP of rail as promised, not a mishmash
🚄prioritise economy, society, environment not competition law
🚄a watchdog we can hold accountable
🚄no privatisation loopholes e.g. let's own the trains
PASSENGERS NOT PROFITS
💪It's a Tug of War - Railway Passengers vs Profiteers!💪
🤔Will YOUR MP vote for amendments to improve the new Railways Bill?

We're ready for our Tug of War!
On one side: passengers, the economy, nature and the environment + @chris nhinchcliffe and @richard burgon - standing up for an improved Railways Bill.
On the other: the profiteers and politicians who don't share their vision for Great British Railways.
Tug of War stunt on Parliament Square. A rural commuter holds a placard headed 'Great British Rail', which says 'entitles ALL passengers to a third off rail ticket prices.
Tug of War on Parliament Square. On one side of the tug of war: passengers, including commuters and leisure passengers, disabled passengers, rural passengers, older passengers, parents and grandparents with children plus the economy, nature and the environment (exciting costumes and signs welcome!) On the other side: private rail interests who are clinging onto our railway, including profit-making companies like First Group, and the private rolling stock outfits that own our trains, alongside John Major (the Prime Minister who privatised our railway).
Tug of War protesters: a commuter holds up a placard saying "your fares could have been cut by 12.6% since 2022 using the money that went to shareholders"
Richard Burgon MP, in front of a line of protesters, is holding a placard saying 'Private companies are trying to cling on to our railways. Heidi Alexander - close the privatisation loopholes in the Railways Bill.'
Our Tug of War outside Parliament highlights the savings that could be passed on to passengers if profits weren't being gouged out by the Rolling Stock companies.

🚨BREAKING
Research shows dividends paid out by train leasing companies since COVID could have CUT rail fares by almost 13% since 2022.
That’s why we're taking action from 1-2pm today in Parliament Square to demand the government puts passengers before profit in their Railways Bill.
See you there!
Whoever it is on @ofwat.bsky.social's board saying NO to Thames Water setting its own rules - THANK YOU! 👏👏👏
If Thames Water is allowed to pollute more, that would set a precedent for more sewage across England
Please keep defending households and the environment

Graphic that includes the logo of Angel Trains, and says "paid dividends of £1.9 billion in the last decade. Bring Rolling Stock into Public Ownership".
😡😡PRIVATISATION IN A NUTSHELL: You pay higher rail fares, so private train leasing firms can pay out billions to their shareholders.
It is time for MPs to say who they stand for: passengers or profiteers.

The Railways Bill will be debated in the House of Commons again soon. Richard Quigley is one of the MPs tabling amendments aimed at resolving key problems in the Bill.

Private firms made £1.6bn out of the NHS in the last two years
That could have paid for over 9000 doctors
Long waiting lists, crumbling hospitals, corridor care - patients are suffering while profiteers line their pockets
How much profit is leaking out of your local NHS? vist.ly/4y8yn
Meanwhile the government and local MPs continue to peddle the line that nationalisation would be too expensive. Here's our blog on why none of their arguments make sense: weownit.org.uk/news/responses-to-argume...

The government’s promise to take rail into public ownership, could be just another betrayal.
❌Private companies will continue to run some of our trains
❌Private shareholders will continue to make billions in dividends from owning rolling stock
