exactly.
no affected person is required to forgive. nor is it the place of non-affected people to forgive.
but assuming the worst of them in the present, and just acting like it was never a big deal, are both dangerous extremes, imo.
at least Michael acknowledged it quickly. unlike Kittensneeze.
personally? i believe their apologies were made in earnest. but i'm not a mind reader.
i don't want to assume the worst of them now. they clearly acknowledged their fault and took accountability.
ultimately, however, only time will tell how they handle this going forward.
last statement for now:
the Michael and Ashley situation isn't a "nothingburger" and they were both 100% right to address it.
BUT
we can't speak on their current character and whether they're "really sorry" or not. we can only take their statements at face value. doesn't mean you have to forgive.
lady wearing a shirt that has been badly edited to say "I joined BlueSky and all I got was blocked by the technical advisor who tried to cool his phone off in a pool and also this jpeg of a t-shirt"
People are allowed to grow and people are allowed to feel hurt by your actions. And because of that sometimes folks wont forgive you and that is okay. Support black voices and listen.
The only way we can come together and make change is acknowledging and remembering everyone is capable of harm even without intent. And that just because you apologized doesn't mean someone is no longer allowed to feel hurt. Folks are allowed to look at you differently.
To be a good ally one must acknowledge and understand that antiblackness is heavily engrained in society and our cultures and that just because you do not personally see or understand the harm of a microaggression (yes including accidental ones) doesn't mean it inst there and you shouldn't apologize
In Norway we have a nickname for Wednesdays which is "Little Saturday" and it can be an excuse to get yourself a little treat (and who doesn't like a little treat)
Coincidentally, Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley is on sale on both Steam and Nintendo Switch 👀💚
"Initially seeking someone to care for him, young Moomintroll reluctantly embarks on a journey into the unknown, learning to forge new friendships and help those in greater need than himself." - I find this aspect of Moomintroll: Winter's Warmth's story so incredibly touching 😭
ONLY 5 DAYS until you’ll get to meet Moomintroll's ancestor?!
(wait… who?!)
Gonna start blocking folks who are being fucking annoying and riding white man dick (aka lil white boys being weird). Let the man apologize. And leave folk who are upset alone.
if someone wants to apologize and if people who were harmed want to forgive or not is NOT up to y'all to decide.
But also lets be mature adults about this and not harass folk over this.
Im tired of white ppl talking over black voices and trying to bash folks who are rightfully upset
anyways daily reminder to do not hold ppl up on a high pedestal and to remind everyone ur fave is still human and is capable of making mistakes and doing harm (whether intentional or not)
so regarding the things Michael Kovach said in that stream.
i know it's not my place to forgive him. i'm not gonna pretend it is.
but i am glad he acknowledged it. i'm disappointed it happened, of course. but unlike SOME people in this fandom, he at least genuinely addressed it.
this is about the stuff with Michael Kovach and Ashley Nichols btw
"but it was 7 years ago :(" they were both grown ass adults. hell, im turning the age they WERE in the clip
"something something eggman nega" bro if u don't stop pissing me off like Michael and Ashley didn't call it racism too
I've just been made aware of this. This is absolutely an insensitive joke. Earlier in the stream, we heard Ashley read out a username that contained the word “Nega” (short for negative) and all of us, including chat, freaked out because we misheard what was said. Once the misunderstanding was cleared, we poked fun at the absurdity of it. However, the "joke" relies on the fact that it's "teetering on racist" - which ultimately is no different than making a legitimate racist joke. I apologize for any harm this has caused, and for the fact that we ever thought it humorous to joke about in the first place. Racism is NEVER okay and we should always strive to be kind and lift each other up.
Post from tobydrave.bsky.social featuring a comic portraying someone digging up dirt on someone from 4-6+ years ago for smug satisfaction followed by a post from m3biusf0x.bsky.social that reads: Terminally online dipshit: Did you know Michael Kovach said a slur years ago? Normal person: Did you see the new Mario Galaxy Movie? It's so awesome i wanna play Star Fox 64 now!
Again, just another tiny little joke in an ocean of antiblackness that has become so completely normalized that even when MICHAEL HIMSELF apologizes and says it was wrong, I see a parade of people minimizing it. Wokeness is reserved for everybody but the people who actually coined the term it seems.
Here is the clip of the TADC voice cast playing jackbox in 2019. The word "nega" comes up and everyone finds it extremely hilarious for some reason. Kovach then says "so long nega" at the end. He has recently apologized.
Again my concern is not the incident, its the rush to forgive.
We are alwaya required to minimize our own blackness for the comfort of white people while AT THE SAME TIME being asked to just "chill" about racist jokes that pervade every fandom we're in.
It gets to a point.
I don't think its your place to order amazon prime next-day delivery forgiveness if you've never been the butt of these jokes.
And if you're black and think "its all good" please display a semblance of a spine, this is how fandoms deteriorate. Ask me how I know. ASK ME HOW I KNOW.
Its less about the joke itself (which was racist, btw) and more the constant minimizing and marginilization of POC in fandom spaces. Our concerns are never taken seriously, its always "just jokes"
it irks me that white people will collectively rush to forgive Michael Kovach for joking about saying a word that sounds close to nigga yet if I said it they would visibly flinch.
Another Tessa 🖤

Im so anxious
post from Michael Kovach on X/Twitter: "Hey guys! I know it may be tempting because they're rare and some folks really want them, but do NOT pay an excessive amount of money for scalped products. Especially the corporations doing it - they do NOT deserve to flourish off of scummy business practices. Thank you!"
so apparently an official retailer called Toy Temple is scalping their exclusive Jax Suit Pomni animiniz for insane prices and it's at the point where even the official VA for Jax is addressing it.
if i still believed in hell, there'd be a special place there for scalpers.
I don’t think i postrf this on here yet, but NUzi art i made some months ago
